M.C. Rodd Foster capably took us through an hour of musical talent, of poetry reading, performances by the Puppets, and a roast to Charlene by the guide leaders. Several presentations were made including on behalf of the church membership, a beautiful quilt and quilt stand, also a monetary gift. The evening con- cluded with a social hour. Sunday morning service was the final service for Rev. Shepherd as our minister. Linda Hunter at the organ and Betty Stone at the piano had a prelude of music as the congregation was gathering. Suzanne Lee and Diane Pelletier sang a beau- tiful duet "I Am The Light of the World," and the choir sang a favorite anthem of Charlene Shepherds' "River in Judea." Carol Brown representing the Lindsay Presbytery was in attendance to lead the "Celebration of the end of the Covenant." The choir concluded the service by singing the "Irish Blessing." Next Sunday, Feb. 2 at Greenbank United Church the congregation will welcome Rev. Ross Carson as their new min- ister. Services at 11:15 a.m. There will be coffee and muffins before church in the Sunday School Rooms and everyone is invited to this social hour. The Sunday School will be Congregation meets this coming Sunday for annual discussion By Linda and Colleen Arbuckle Nestleton United Church On this chilly Sunday morn- ing, the greeters were Regina and David Walker. The sermon was "The Best Sermon in the World." Rev. Shearman brought up the Hill Fire Relief Fund, which is a fund for Aaron and Cynthia Hill and Matt ad his fiance Cynthia who lost their Richmond Hill home in a fire. The house was uninsured and they have lost all their belong- ings. Donations can be made to Hill Fire Relief Fund, Box 250, Blackstock, Ontario, LOB 1LO. Receipts will be issued for dona- tions. Sunday, Feb. 2 is the annual congregational meeting. The meeting will be held after pot luck lunch following the service. On Feb. 16 a guest minister will be speaking for Rev. Shearman. Rev. Wendell White from Camp Quin-Mo-Lac will be the guest minister. Family News Linda Arbuckle and Mary Ann Found attended an Ontario 4-H Council Conference at Geneva Park this weekend. They were representing the Durham East 4-H Council. The exams are finally over and the high school students go back to school on Wednesday, Jan. 29. If you have any news that we could use, please call us at 986-5080. We'd love to hear from you. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Braving the weather on a cold but sunny January morn- ing, Rev. Wm. Fairley conduct- ed the service in Nestleton Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Joyce Taylor was organist and Oliver Rohrer and Harvey Mills were ushers. Responsive Psalm was #62 and the Biblical name was "Jonah" - a person with the wrong attitude of mind. Scripture readings were from Jonah and St. Mark I. In the sermon Rev. Fairley Sole of "Power Struggles" in church - and society as a whole. God is our salvation. Following the service, lun- cheon was enjoyed in the Sunday School Room. Mr. Ron Britain was welcomed and he will be in the pulpit for the next two Sundays, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9. Rev. Fairley will be trav- elling to England and Scotland and on behalf of the Nestleton congregation, Graham Ham presented him with a cheque and our good wishes for an enjoyable trip. hE 5: RY STAR Greenbank| by singing at the beginning of the church service so parents are asked to have them at the church by 10:30 a.m. for prac- tice, and you can then enjoy a cup of coffee. Sympathy of the community goes to Raymond and Jean Kerry on the death of Raymond's mother Mrs. Edna Kerry, who for the past few years had been a resident of the Port Perry Villa. Congratulations to Allen and Lila Clarkson who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on the weekend. Saturday evening family and friends gath- ered at Greenbank Hall for a surprise party for the happy couple. The monthly euchre will be held this Friday evening, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. in Greenbank Hall. New card players are always welcome. Greenbank Public School is asking for three volunteers from the school community who have no contact with the school. These representatives will be on the Community Council, and will be asked to serve for two years and attend monthly meet- ings during the school year. Sympathy goes to Jim and Pat Green and family on the recent death of Jim's mother who was affectionately known to our family and others as "Grandma Green." Yuk Yuk Night I ask you to look at the cal- endar and you will see that the Firefighters Yuk Yuk night is less than two weeks away. There is the Yuk Yuk enter- tainment, live band with danc- ing, buffet and bar. Price is $15 per person and will be held at the Nestleton Hall, Saturday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Sunnyside Market, Caesarea. Last year they were sold out a week before the big night. We were saddened this week to read of Doug Keeler's father passing on. Our sincere condolences to his wife Dolores (Gallagher) and the Keeler's families. Scout Movement The 1st Cartwright Scout groups wish to thank the Bank of Montreal for their large donation towards new equip- ment. On Feb. 16 all the scouts of our district will attend a church parade in full uniform at St. John's Anglican Church, Blackstock. On April 11 all the scouts of our district will attend their annual banquet at Nestleton Community Yuk Yuks night coming up Caesarea by Albert Putsey Centre. On May 10 Cartwright Beavers will host the Beavers at the Blackstock fairgrounds. Please mark these impor- tant dates on your calendar. Over the weekend we read of the great ice movement on Lake Simcoe. It was reported to me of two lads going in up to their waist at the big pier here in Caesarea. Sure is a sign we had some ice move- ment or fast current of water flowing. Blackstock Lions Club I spent a lovely evening at the Rec. Centre, Blackstock with the Lions Club Jan. 15. We had a lovely beef dinner and then I was asked to speak on the early days of Caesarea as I remember it. With the use of some plaquards loaded with pic- tures it made my task much easier. By the end of January or early February you will hear of the Ontario Government giv- ing out over 200 permits for the erection of gambling casi- no's throughout Ontario to qualified corporations.' Carl Sandburg Joke of the Week: Ruth wanted to be taken on perma- nently at the hospital and when the chief of staff asked her to do a letter she promptly complied. The letter went out and a day later the doctor pointed out she had addressed him as chief of stiffs. Orchestra provided great music Scugog Island United Church The orchestra provided spe- cial music during our Sunday worship. Special thanks to Bon- nie Bell, Bob Cawker, Doug Barber, Nicole and Yvette Hamelinck for sharing their tal- ents with the congregation. It was a wonderful treat on such a cold morning. The Mom and Tots will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 9:30 a.m. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The High School Supper Club will meet on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. Coffee Hour will be held next Sunday, Feb. 2 following our yo worship. Parents of the Sunday J, School children are asked to bring pot luck finger food to share with the congregation be- fore the skating party at 2 p.m. The children always look for- ward to this event.
