PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 25, 1997 -29 Sy 'Gamblers won't take the field this year From Page 20 entered top notch tournaments all over Ontario and further afield, win- ning their share of them. In 1991, Gamblers represented Ontario at the Canada Senior Games in Alberta; that same year they were all Ontario finalists. In 1990, they captured the Peterborough City League champi- onship under highly adverse conditions, in which their opponents flatly refused to play any series games in Greenbank. In 1988, Gamblers were all-Ontario Intermediate champs, going undefeat- ed through the tournament played in London. But perhaps the most memorable highlight was 1986, the year the team won its first OASA banner at a tour- nament in Port Perry. Gamblers defeated legendary pitch- er Darren Zack and his Garden River team in a championship game that is still recalled with awe by fastball fans in Scugog Township who witnessed the The Borelilans Community Theatre Group are busy preparing for "Jake's Woman" by Nell Simon. The show runs Feb. 27-28 and March 1, 6, 7, and 8 at 241 Queen St. and tickets are $12 each. In the photo are Dave Lepp, as Jake, surrounded by his women. (L-R) Lisa Taylor, Rhonda Brewster, Eliza- beth Holden, Betty Ann Knutson and Kierra Lepp. Call 985-1965 for tickets. Computer users will meet riveting final. As Foster said, "We've had quite a run over the years." He himself has been active in fastball as a player, coach and manager for nearly half a century. Now approaching 70, he con- cedes the workload the last several seasons has been enormous and said he's about ready to step aside, anyway. "I have enjoyed every minute and have nothing but respect and admira- tion for every guy who wore a Gambler uniform." As to whether the club will come to life again some time in the future, Foster suggested anything is possible. But for the summer of 1997, anyway, the lights will be dim Thursday nights in Greenbank.
