The Shirley Rd. man was charged after police inves- tigated his October 1996 claim that someone had stolen close to $60,000 worth of tools from his shed while he was out west. According to Durham Police records, the man laid a complaint last October, saying $56,749.30 worth of tools were stolen between Sept. 14 and Oct. 4 while he was out of the province. a An investigation revealed that he had conspired with another man to steal the tools while he was gone, but the man refused, police said. Police allege he even- tually found another man to steal his tools, and when he returned from his trip he filed a claim with an insurance company between October and December 1996 for the value of the tools. On Jan. 1, 1997, police completed the first phase of their investigation and brought the suspect to 26 Division station, charging him with attempted fraud, public mischief, and counselling to commit an indictable offense. Almost two months later, Durh®m Police received more information and executed a search warrant on Feb. 26 in Clarington, where some of the allegedly stolen tools were found. After this investigation, the local man was also charged with perjury, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense and a further attempt at fraud over $5,000. He is scheduled to appear at Oshawa court on April 17. Paul Brough Lisa Peterson along with their parents, wish to announce their engagment. The wedding will take place on May 17, 1997.
