"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 11, 1997-5 Woman goes missing again Distraught mother seeks help finding daughter By Chris Hall Port Perry Star A Blackstock woman has issued a plea to the public to help locate her missing daughter. Carolyn Redican, 45, who also uses her maiden name of Murray, went missing from home in Blackstock Feb. 8. She was last seen at the Pentecostal Church in Stouffville two weeks ago. : According to her mother, Kathleen Watts, Carolyn became very upset and angry when the York Regional Police visited her at the church, and only returned to Blackstock for one evening in late February. Mrs. Watts said Carolyn, a schizophrenic, is in declining health. "She needs medical help and she needs to be cleaned up. Her hair is matted up under her old green hat and she wears a purple coat and old green pants," the worried mother told The Star. She believes that her daughter is afraid of the police, and that is making it hard to locate her. "Her judgement is so bad because of her disease," GM sales dipping during early 1997 General Motors of Canada retailers delivered a to- tal of 27,328 new vehicles in February, down 7 per cent from the 29,377 units delivered in the same month last year the company announced this week. Truck sales totaled 11,450 units, a decrease of 1.6 per cent compared to February 1996, and passenger car sales were down 10.5 per cent at 15,878 units. "We need some family members to go pick her up because she'll just run from the police. She needs to get some help. I spoke to a doctor in Port Perry and he said that he'd be willing to come to the house to see her if we couldn't get her to go to the office." Ms. Watts says that she wants to get her other daughter and son-in-law to go with her to help persuade Carolyn to come back home. She also said that she heard that Carolyn was seen in the Stouffville area late last week. "She was only seen a few days ago but who knows where she is now? There are plenty of places where she could hide. She wears old, ragged clothes and she hasn't bathed in a long time. No human should live like that," Ms. Watts said.. While her mother believes that she is in Stouffville, she can't do anything until she gets a solid lead on her whereabouts. "I need everyone's help. She's scared of the police so if anyone sees her I want them to call me, not them," she stated, also asking that Carolyn not be told that her mother knows where she is. "With this disease she's not thinking too clear. She needs help. I hope that someone sees her, keeps quiet, calls me and doesn't tell her." Carolyn is described as 5'2" with reddish blond hair, brown eyes, a fair complexion and a slim build. She was last seen wearing old green slacks, a purple windbreaker, an old green hat and black boots. She had a brown handbag and is not on any medication. She drives a gold two-door 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix, license plate number XLN 235. Her mother, Kathleen Watts, is asking anyone with any information to call her, collect if necessary, at 986- 4968. The Blackstock United Church is hosting an infor- mation meeting featuring a speaker from the Ontario Friends of Schizophrenics group tonight in the church at 7:30. Everyone is welcome. i a Carolyn Redican in happier times. Her mother fears for the schizophrenic woman's safety. Are You Being Squeezed by Today's Low Interest Rates?
