The Scugog Arena was filled to capacity, Satur- day, March 15 as a great crowd came out to support and cheer on the Port Perry Country Style Ban- tams. This was the third game of a best of five series against Niagara Falls Ca- nucks. With Port leading the series 2-0 this could be their opportunity to ad- vance to the final round of the OMHA "A" level divi- sion. After a delay of an hour due to a mix up with refer- ees, the game finally got underway. Niagara Falls with their backs to the wall came out flying trying eo to get that early lead. Port withstood the early pres- sure and took the lead on a goal by Mark Blakley with an assist from Jason Whit- worth. Niagara Falls came back and tied the game with seconds remaining on the clock in the first pe- riod. In the second period Port started to pick up their play and their efforts were rewarded with three goals for a commanding 4- 1 lead after two periods. Jason Whitworth scored on a nice setup from Mark Blakley. Later in the peri- od Ryan McQuade scored two goals within a minute 7 | Port wins 5-3 in Niagara sweep to give Port this big lead. In the third Port played strong defensive hockey to protect the lead but Niaga- ra Falls finally broke through with two goals to put the crowd on the edge of their seats with two minutes remaining. Niagara Falls were pushing hard but with the goalie pulled, Jason Whit- worth broke free to score into the empty net to se- cure the win for Port 5-3. Ryan Fraser played a fine game in net for Port making some excellent saves to record the win. SAVING THE DAY: Many youngsters got a chance to play a little hockey last week as tournaments were held every day at the Scu- gog Arena.
