"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 25, 1997 -3 Ribcor wants to start new Victorian Village phase Developer threatens shut down over sewer shortage By John B. McClelland Port Perry Star Ribcor Holdings is ready to start building new homes in Phase 4 of Victorian Village, but is held up by a lack of allocation for sewage treatment. Colin Blight, general manager for Ribcor, asked Scugog Township council on Monday to allocate the company capacity in the municipal treatment sys- tem that is not being used by other developers in the community. "All we need is sewer allocation capac- ity," said Mr. Blight, as the company is "ready to go" in building new homes in Phase 4 of Victorian Village between Port Perry and Prince Albert. And unless the company gets that allocation, he said Ribcor will have no choice but to shut down its construction in Port Perry and move elsewhere. "We (Ribcor) are suffering here because others are not using their allo- cation. This is not fair," said Mr. Blight, adding the company does not want to be forced into shutting down construction in Port Perry. Phase 3 is now almost complete with 53 of 64 homes sold, he said, and he 'expects the remaining 11 homes will be sold and built by the end of the summer. Ward 1 Councillor Doug Moffatt said the request from Ribcor for allocation of unused sewer capacity is a "reasonable one," given the fact that Durham Region is at least five years away from upgrading the Port Perry treatment system with a new plant. Capacity in the existing system has been allocated to other development companies, but they have yet to start building. "It's very costly for the community to have this (building) inactivity," said Ward 2 rep Ken Carruthers. He suggest- ed the township must come up with a process to get construction moving. Council noted that Rattleglen Developments has been given until September of this year to come up with draft plan approval for its residential project on land on the west side of Old Simcoe Rd. and east of Durham Road 8, across from the Scugog Arena. If Rattleglen does not move ahead with its development plans by that date, it could lose the sewage treatment allo- cation it has been given by the township. Two other developers, Perryview and Van Edwards, have been allocated capac- ity in the sewage treatment system for new housing on lands between Port Perry and Prince Albert. The Port Perry Star & Weekend Star Preferred by more than 3 to 1 over it's competition babi iat Colleen Smith of Greenbank is one of the students that Michele Valentino teaches each week. Ms. Valentino is holding the second annual Aerobathon on April 20 at the Scugog Community Centre. 'Aerobathon' planned for April In order to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and to promote fitness, a local woman will be staging Port Perry's second annual Aerobathon. Michele Valentino is trying to raise money through pledges for the founda- tion, and to eclipse last year's total donation of $2,500. This year's event will be held at the Scugog Community Centre on April 20 between noon and 3 p.m. Close to 60 people participated in last year's aero- bathon, and Ms. Valentino wants to try and double that number. "I want to get at least 100 people out this year, especially more men. We only had two guys out last year and this time I want to see more," said the fitness instructor, stressing that the event will be a fundraiser, not an aerobics class. There will be two 45-minute sessions of aerobics and one 45-minute line dancing session with 15-minute breaks in between and refreshments will be provided by Port Perry IGA. Anyone interested in participating in the aerobathon or wanting more information can contact Michele Valentino at 985-7617.
