Some people have no respect for those who walk." The township bylaw officer is acting on the complaints complaints by ticketing vehicles, said the mayor. "Some people who have been ticketed have become very upset, but we're not looking for trouble. We're just handling complaints and maybe next time they'll think twice about parking in such an irre- sponsible manner," said Mayor Hall. There is a three-hour parking law in Port Perry, and the fine for offenders is $30, or $20 if paid in seven days. Drivers who park on or over a sidewalk could face a $45 fine, which is reduced to $35 if paid within a week. "We just want to make sure this is safe place for people to walk and so that the streets can be kept clean and clear," said Mayor Hall.
