When a retirement bar- becue was held Thursday (June 26) at Epsom P.S. for teachers Catherine Corden and Shirley Dorig, both women were over- whelmed at the large crowd gathered to help celebrate the next chapter of their lives. Mrs. Dorig's teaching .career has spanned over 27 years, and includes schools to the south before the Durham Board of Education originated. For the past 11 years she has taught in the classrooms at Epsom P.S. Someone else in Mrs. Dorig's life helped make the decision to relinquish her career an easier one. Her husband, Leo, is retir- ing soon, too. Shortly thereafter the couple plan to move north where they will be building a new home in Burkes Falls. The move takes Mrs. career, Catherine Corden has taught throughout schools in the Durham Region, as well. Having come to the Epsom and Greenbank schools in the fall of 1983, Mrs. Corden said she's been honored for hav- ing the privilege to teach so many children in her career. Throughout her teach- ing tenure, she has taught As for retirement, Mrs. Corden plans to "live life to the fullest." Although her husband Roy will still continue with his real estate business, she says she has many interests to keep her busy. "It's taken -me eight months to come to this deci- sion," she said. "Now that I've made it, I'm looking forward to my retirement."
