The board may need to "go farther in letting the public know how funding cuts and other changes are affecting the operation of the library," said Councillor Gadsden. "As we adapt to these changes we may make some mistakes, but we are learning and adapting too." Jackie Moore wasn't all negative about the changes at the library. "We'd all like to com- mend library CEO (Tom) Bonanno on his promotion of the library and on crack- ing down about overdue books and fines," she said. Councillor Gadsden offered the board's endorsement for the CEO. "...he has a very hands on approach to managing that some may have to adjust to, but the board is very supportive of Mr. Bonanno. He's had to con- front some tough funding cuts. "He has the board's full support." When asked about the current status of labor negotiations, board mem- bers felt it jnappioptisie to comment while a con- tract remains unsigned. Labor and management at the library are currently in mediation as they attempt to draw up a first contract.
