A 16- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 15, 1997 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Beacock family holds reunion Nestleton News By Linda and Colleen Arbuckle Nestleton United Church On a sunny Sunday morning, the 8th Sunday after Pentecost, the greeters were Rob and Carol Mairs. Rob Mairs was the scripture reader. Kate Mairs was the pianist for the service. Rev. Shearman's sermon was titled "Speaking the Truth". There will be no service at Nestleton United Church for the next four weeks as Rev. Shearman will be on holidays. Nestleton congregation are invited to join Blackstock for joint worship services at the Blackstock United Church. Sunday, August 17 service at Nestleton will be the Cemetery Decoration at 2:30 p.m. The church held a yard sale on Saturday at the home of Rob and Carol Mairs. Proceeds from the "Peeping Tom" fund raising bar- beque held at the Manse at Blackstock will go towards the new windows at the Manse. Nestleton Presbyterian Church There will be no service at the church during the months of July and August. Church will resume the first Sunday of September. Family News Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Rika Wygerde and family in the loss of a husband and father, Joe Wygerde who was buried at Nestleton on Saturday. The 70th Beacock Family Reunion was held at Nestleton Community Centre on Saturday, July 12. The children enjoyed playing games under the supervision of Colleen Arbuckle, during the business meeting. The clogging grandmothers from Lindsay entertained the crowd and then joined the group for the beef barbecue. A special thank you to the "Caterin Kin" who catered the barbecue. On Sunday a family get together was held at Glen Goslins home in Oshawa, this being a surprise baby shower for Glen's daughter Annittia and baby Melissa. A brief of this meeting was submitted to the township and planners for consideration to be adapted to the official plan. This was delivered to the township office Thursday, thus it was in before the deadline of July 14th. Next meeting to be held Sunday, Aug. 17th at 3 p.m. at 20 Putsey Drive. Lake Scugog Golf Tournament Only a few spots left in the docket of 96 play- ers for the Saturday, July 26th tournament at Sunnybrae. Cost is $35.00 which includes green fees. Caesarea Festival of Sports Our programs are printed and our can- vassers are out deliver- ing them this week and asking for your financial support to allow us to purchase prizes. Everything is in order except for one item. The Caesarea Hall women usually take care of the junior center at the field day. This is a corner where youth under eight years old can go after their races and spend an enjoyable afternoon. They have a fish pond, finger painting, games and etc. Children five and under must be accompa- nied by an adult. Last year there was a young lad who helped and was greatly appreciated. Care to help? Bill Jay and Family Our neighbours and I are very happy to see Bill, wife Janet and fam- ily have arrived from Fort McMurray. This is a place where, at this time of the year, the sun never goes to bed. They are here for the month of July and sincerely trust we will have good weather for them and they will have another memorable holiday. Mrs. Eunice Goodman This past week we went to Wagg's Funeral Home to show our respects to Eunice whom was a good resident of our village for a number of years.
