From the Molson Indy... Rookie Dario Franchitti claims pole position! Mark Blundell (F-1 failure) claims second consecu- tive win! Paul Tracy maintains points lead! (Although Penske chassis still can't turn right!) Greg Moore drops from second overall to fourth! (Thanks to Al Zanardi's pro style punt!) Patrick Carpentier still leads the rookies in points! Other Tcronto winners: Helio Castro-Neves in Indy Lights. (David Empringham...third) Memo Gidley in Formula Atlantic. (Canuck Alex Tagliani...second) Benoit Theege (twice) in the Canadian Enduroseries. : And the full moon madness continued Saturday night at Mosport Speedway. Dan Robinson enjoyed a healthy lead in the ThunderCar points standings at the mid-season marker and a moderately successful night has stretched his advantage over challenger Roy Martel and Dave Wills. Heat wins by Roger Holmes, Gary Jackson, Steve Knab (substituting for Nick Sonopoli) and newcomer Larry MacKenzie set up the 20 lap feature race where on-track antics contributed to three caution periods and two disqualifications, (Dan Price and Steve Drysdale). When the checkers finally flew, it was Steve Knab holding off Dan Robinson for the victory, only slightly ahead of a closing Roy Martel. @heiPul & JD Fishing & Archery - Derby Rut 2 Big Fish Con Clas To enter you must registe ready 15400 Old Simcoe Rd., (90s) 985-8479 i § PRAPIOWF eons WEES NICK ORAM /:\Uhge)liz{o]p)d (ef si a kelch DOLLAR PLUS S Je: 5 - 432 RULES REGULATIONS. The only predictable race was in the Late Model feature were points leader Jeff Hanley, starting shot- n on the field, carved his way up to the lead in only ive laps and then cruised to an easy half-lap advan- tage at the end of the 25 circuit event. Dunnville's Mike Horton and Brad Corcoran from Etobicoke pro- vided the best action in the battle for second place with the Toronto driver nipping Horton on the final corner for the runner-up spot. Corcoran (with one heat win) and Horton are now in a virtual tie for third place in the overall points standings, while Hanley, with the other heat victory, was able to extend his lead over Wes Lee who was disqualified from the feature for failing to answer the black flag. : No where was the lunar lunacy more evident than in the Modified division. The heats ran sensibly enpugh with wins going to Ritchie Mannette (two), Larry Jackson and Ken Donaldson. The feature was a different story. Six yellow flags slowed the 20 lap event to an absolute crawl as seven of the 19 starters wound up behind the pit wall. When the checkered flag mercifully fell, it was Ken Donaldson leading the procession ahead of Dwight Brown and Darrin Wrigglesworth. Heartbreak of the night had to be suffered by series points leader Larry Jackson. After blowing the engine in his second heat race, Jackson and his crew removed the powerplant from brother Gary's ThunderCar and miraculously man- aged to get the unit buttoned down in time for the feature run. Fifteen laps in, Jackson had moved up to seventh spot but the next time 'round, the Oakville driver found himself collected in a five car, front straight melee. The badly damaged race car was eliminated and this, coupled with the Donaldson win, has relegated Jackson to second place behind the Queensville driver in the overall standings with Dwight Brown holding down third spot and closing. 1gog team off to le "A" tourney ay, July 15th our Rep Peewee baseball sored by Pineridge Sports & IBICO d against Thurlow to qualify for the .N.E. With the strong finishes at this event, the local riders are in a position to make a serious run at the top positions in their categories, and further help promote the mountain bike sport in the area.
