Scugog Administrator Earl Cuddie says that the Tories' idea of trying out Sunday liquor and beer sales during the month of August has not been objected to by any of the local council members. "Yes we're going to allow them to open here if they want to," Mr. Cuddie said last week. "They were open last year a couple of times and then during the month of December for Christmas and so far, we've had no objections. I haven't had any reaction from anyone." He said the opening of alcohol outlets would definitely appeal to tourists, especially those from the U.S. and Quebec who are already accustomed to Sunday sales. If any concerns were raised, said Mr. Cuddie, township council would have to meet to discuss the idea and then declare a policy on the issue. Township council- lors are currently on a summer break. Also in favor of an extra shopping day is Port Perry liquor store manager Jim Paradine, who says that he's pre- pared for the extra hours. "Yes, we're going to be open from 1la.m. to 6p.m., but I don't know if it will change much," he said, when asked if longer hours might increase sales. "Of course it's timely but I don't know how it will affect Saturday sales, the days when a lot of people do their shop- ping. We're not prepared for a big crush; being super busy," said Mr. Paradine. "We'll be okay; I've got the staff for the extra hours. If we're too busy then we're too busy. But, another day of work- ing is okay with us." The manager at the local Beer Store, however, is still uncertain as to whether he will be opening his doors to the public during Sundays in August. "We have had no directions yet so we'll have to wait and see. It's not our choice," said Ron Pollard.
