It's been sev- eral years since the big top came to Port Perry, and Mr. Alton said the company's glad to include the town on its schedule. "We haven't been here in four years, but the new facility is fantastic (the fairgrounds) and the Chamber of Commerce has done a great job let- ting people know we're coming, so it'll be a great show," he said. "We play over 40 shows in Ontario, and we love it here. The people of Ontario are very family- orientated, and so are we." Mr. Alton -- who spends a great deal of time on the road himself - - said the lifestyle of the Circus performers is a hectic one indeed. "We work eight months of the year, and have only five days with no perfor- mances or set-up." Call The Star at 985-7383 Mr.Alton Young offender faces several charges A Port Perry teenager wielded a knife to scare off an attacker during a break-in and assault last week, police said. Durham Regional Police said a teen was assailed after interrupting a break-in at his Old Simcoe Rd. home in the early morning hours last Sunday. Alerted to an intruder's presence by the barking of a dog, the youth went outside to investigate around 1 a.m., police said. He confronted a man who charged him, and a scuffle ensued. A suspect battered the youth with fists; until the 16-year-old fended him off with a broom, police said. The teen then brandished a knife, and managed to give his assailant the slip. He called 911. When police arrived, he reported that a watch and chain he had been wearing prior to the assault had gone missing. On Thursday (July 31), police got information that Teen wields knife to fend off attacker the suspect was at a residence on Hwy. 7A in Port Perry, and made an arrest around 1:15 in the after- noon. A 17-year-old Port Perry youth has been charged with two counts of break, enter and theft -- one count relating to a break-in at the same family's home last year -- and assault. Pedestrian hit An elderly Port Perry man was injured after being hit by a car in the downtown area last week. Police said that an 88-year-old Rosa St. resident was at the intersection of Simcoe and Perry St. around 6 p.m. Thursday (July 31) when he stepped off the curb on the east side of the street. A passing car, driven by a woman from Beaverton, hit the man. He was taken to hospital in Port Perry and treated for minor injuries.
