Grandparents Allan and Lynne Bertrand of Halibusion I'm sure are very excited about this event as well as Anne Gliddon who is great-grandmother. Congratulations to Don and Fay Simmonds on the birth of a wee baby daughter. "April" arrived on Wednesday, ie 5 30 at Markham-Stouffville Hospital. Proud grandparents on the 8th Line are Barbara and David Simmonds. A very warm welcome to Arnis Pickitis and Ann Joyner and daughters who have pur- chased the former Beelby house on the 8th Line. Katelyn Bacon of Utica and Virginia Wilson of Epsom have spent a week at Camp Widjiitiwin near Huntsville. The girls report a very good week and the water activities most popular these hot days. Friends of Harry Boadway in this area were saddened to hear of his passing. Harry has been a resident of Unionville recently. Our sympathy to his SSA NESS family. Maurice and Elaine Pratt, Jennifer and Steve attended the wedding of their son Andrew in Brandon, Manitoba. Durham West 4-H judging competition was held recently and two members of the Uxbridge 4-H Dairy Club did very well. Scott Evans - high paint junior, Teena Evans - igh point intermediate and the Uxbridge Dairy Club was runner-up for Top Club. Congratulations to all our 4-H members. Thursday visitors with Darlene Christie were Mr. Gerry Buffet and daughter Gerrilee of Nova Scotia and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buffet of 'Bramalea. Friends of Diane and broth- er Aaron Lehman attended a pooql party on Saturday to cele- &te their birthdays. This was one of the silent auction items in aid of the recent Epsom Indy and was donated by John and Suzanne Warner. Ten children enjoyed the after- noon of swimming in the Warner pool, games and a spe- cial cake. Last week I mentioned that Utica Hall Board were plan- ning a barbecue and corn roast for Aug. 23. They have changed - the date to Sunday, Aug. 24. Prices are the same as last year - $5 for adults, $2.50 chil- dren and pre-schoolers are free. Cassandra Aked and Britni Smith were local girls playing on the Port Perry Soccer team that took part in the Regional Soccer Tournament at St. John's School in Uxbridge where they placed second. ld a nal 7 Wo gC Plans for the annual Blackstock Fair underway The Fair Board meeting last Wednesday was well attended and many plans were finalized for the Demolition Derby and the 132nd annual Blackstock fair which will be held on Aug. 22 and 23. If you are planning to enter either the derby or the fair now is the time to submit your entry forms to the secretary, Janice Beechey. Make your plans _soon.. This seems to be the year for Cartwright High School reunions. On Saturday the class of 1987 held its reunion at the home of Joy and Ian Rudkin with an excellent crowd of class members and 'their spouses and families. There was much visiting and catching up on activities as well as a delicious pot luck evening dinner. There were 12 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following win- ners: Kaye Brown, Mary Cannon, George Matthewson, Grace Bassant. Betty Hockley, Norman Rohrer and Edna Manns. Lucky draws were won by Marie Gibson, Elsie Pogue, George Matthewson, Norma Watts, Myrtle Gimblett, Charlie Stapleton. Rev. 'David Shearman returns to- the pulpit of Blackstock United Church with service at the new sum- mer time of 9:45.a.m. next Sunday. Blake Gunter continues to Blackstock make good progress in Oshawa Hospital in his recovery from the stroke he suffered in early summer. The annual Van Camp fam- ily picnic was held on Sunday with the usual good visiting, great food and fine times together. I hope a more detailed report will be sub- mitted for next week's column. During St. John's coffee hour on Sunday morning, Lawrence McLaughlin was serenaded and received many congratulations, and quite a ~ bit of ribbing, on the occasion of his birthday. We won't reveal the number of birthdays - Lawrence has celebrated, but everybody agreed that he's in quite good shape considering his years. The ashes of the late Ivy Rahm will be interred in St. ~ John's Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. Ivy, a long time member of St. John's and resident of this community, passed away in July at her home in Victoria B.C., where she had lived for the past 10 years. A well-known former resi- dent of Scugog, Rev. Reg Rose - Parish Priest of St. John's from 1966 to 1982 - will assist Father Hugh at a special Eucharist on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. During this service, Reg will baptize Norma Wolfe's newest grandchild. (Please note the change of time from that reported last week. This year, St. John's will have a booth at the Blackstock Fair.
