The tournament was held at the new Legion Complex in Cobourg and this facility is one which any community would be proud to have. The first game was against the Uxbridge Men's team, and Port started strong, leading 4-1 after the second inning on a walk by Jason Best and three hits by Chad Venning, Brad Bricknell, and Jason Cochrane. Uxbridge was able to score two in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game which continued to be a strong pitcher's duel. In the fifth, Paul Goreski, on with a walk, was driven home by Don Harris to score the winning run. Good pitchin and steady defence was enough to hol Uxbridge scoreless in the last inning to give Port a 5-4 win. The second game of the day was against the persistent Oshawa Blues who Port has had trouble with all year. Oshawa had just defeated the favored Claremont's men's team and were rid- ing a high coming into this game. Port started strong in the first inning when Goreski and Todd Smart, on with walks, were able to score on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Tom Kelly. In the fourth, Oshawa were able to put a run across the plate to see the score 2-1 at the end of the fourth. In the fifth, Kelly hit a home run which was an important insurance run and led to the eventual 3-1 win by the Port Juniors. This win put Port into the Championship Finals with an unde- feated record. In the Championship game, Port met Uxbridge who had soundly won their last two games with the strong batting line-up which they possess. Not only did the Juniors have to go against a tough hitting line-up, but they also had to face Byron Barnieski who won the most valuable player at the recent North American World Series _ Tournament. Uxbridge scored one run ~in the third and the game continued to be tough with Port on the losing end in the seventh and Byron had a no hitter Turn to Page 21
