The anniversary service on Sunday celebrating 90 years in the present church was led by mem- bers of the session: Lawrence Nicholls, Don Beacock, Fred Puckrin and Len Somerville. The first church services in Seagrave began in 1884. Betty Lou Beacock intro- duced Rev. Jan White of the Bethany-Pontypool charge. Rev. White chose for her sermon "Small Steps Towards a Big Vision." God only asks us to catch the vision and make it grow. She also talked to the children on "Clowns for Christ." She painted their faces using a star for brightness, a cross for Jesus' death, and a tear drop for sadness. Jesse Knobbs intro- duced the Rob Foster fam- ily of Uxbridge who sang several songs. The three children: Amy 7, Jeremy 5 and Mark 3 are already accomplished singers. The mother Bev who accompa- nied them on the pianc is also a very talented pianist and teacher of music. A social hour followed the service. Next Sunday the ser- vice will be at the usual time at 10 a.m. There will be a variety program and bake sale at the church on Friday evening, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. There will be a free will offering taken to go towards the new furnace fund. Plans are being made for the annual Turkey Dinner to be held Wednesday, Nov. 5. Tickets can be purchased by phon- ing 985-3851, 985-2627, 985-3595, 985-8190, or (705) 357-3504. Lishman pondering move From page 1 But delays in waiting for decisions from the local council and reports from Durham Region are frus- trating to the well-known artist and migratory bird expert. "There are just too many hoops that local government expects you to jump through when you propose a project that is a new idea for them (government)," said Mr, Lishman, who, in a letter to The Star after abandoning a similar plan in Scugog, blamed "bureaucratic cholesterol" for the death of the proposal. The Lishmans ran into problems when they pro- posed a similar, although more extensive project in Nestleton, when residents who opposed the project went to council with their Page 1: logo. Eventually the Lishmans decided to look elsewhere for a site for the project, which was to create a large number of full and part-time jobs. Mr. Lishman said that if he continues to run into problems with the Clarington site, he may well look south of the border for a home for his artistic, envi- ronmental and fashion pro- jects. "The Carolinas (North and South) give a lot of incen- tives to people to try new projects, and have shown interest in what we're trying to do from the start," he said. "We want to remain in Canada, and in this area, but jeesh! ...Every time we try to do something that's good for us and for the com- munity we're locating in, well, it's just hard to get it done." a TR ER ae RR SE
