PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, October 15, 1997 - 9 365 days a year. RIK DAVIE/PORT PERRY STAR HOME SWEET HOME: Glenn and Kelly Evans, seen here checking out the goods on a vintage Chevrolet, were all smiles Sunday as they held a Grand Opening for the new location of Port Perry Auto Glass and Trim. The business has set up shop in a brand new building, located at 1575 Hwy. 7A, just past its junction with Queen St. There was a barbecue and visits by local dignitaries, as well as a stop by owners of vintage automobiles during the celebration. Welcome mat's still out for Lishman project, Hall insists By Rik Davie Port Perry Star Scugog Mayor Howard Hall says that Bill and Paula Lishman will always be welcome in Scugog. He made the state- ment after the appear- ance of several letters to the editor, which he said present "an unfair picture that it was Scugog Council that killed the complex." The Lishmans have taken a scaled-down ver- sion of their plan, involv- ing a fashion design com- plex, to Clarington on the site of an abandoned gravel pit. They are receiving objections from resi- dents there, as was the case when they pitched the plan in Scugog. A plan to establish the fur production facility in addition to a movie stu- dio and ultralight air- Tournament will aid MS On Saturday, Nov. 15, join the Multiple Sclerosis Society at Pickering High School, 180 Church Street North in Ajax for its first Recreational Volleyball Tournament. Teams consist of six craft production in Nestleton drew criti- cism, and was eventually withdrawn. But Mayor Hall says that a project of the size the Lishmans propose would have faced fewer problems in Scugog. "They proposed using land here that was zoned permanently agricultur- al, which always causes some anxiety, as well as a sewage treatment plant that was very experimental and required much in the way of studies to be used," said the mayor. "I understand Mr. Lishman's frustration, but the studies were the same as for any project that requires official plan amendments and re-zoning of that type." Scugog Township council did pass a reso- lution in support of the Lishman plan. "We wanted it here, we still do," said Mayor Hall. "A plan of the type he proposes in Clarington, if he had brought that here it would likely be up and running here." The Lishmans with- drew their original plan for what Bill Lishman called "a number of rea- sons, amount of red tape and the number of hoops that region wanted us to jump through." He said that while it's nice there are indica- tions of support for his project here now, they would have gone much farther to making it a reality when the propos- al was still in the works. "I appreciate the pub- lic support for us; I only wish they (the public) had been a little more vocal at the time," said Mr. Lishman last week. T-3 white per sq. (approx. 100 sq. ft.) ALSO ...
