There were boot prints on that door as well. Q An attempt was also made to enter a Victoria St. home sometime between 3 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 12, say police. Owners of the residence report the outer glass door on their sliding door was pried open, but a security bar prevented thieves from opening the inner door. Pry marks were also found on a window to the left of the sliding door, police say. Stolen vehicles Police report that auto thieves were out during the holiday weekend. Attempts were made to steal three vehicles, and one was taken and smashed into a building. Police say that some- time during the early morning hours Sunday (Oct. 12) thieves made their way around Shanley and John Streets, looking for vehicles. They tried to steal a 1988 Jeep Cherokee from a John St. home, but could- n't get it started, police say. They were also scared off by a man who saw them pushing the vehicle, report police. The vehicle was found in neutral with the driver's window smashed out. An attempt to steal a 1985 Jimmy from Shanley St. was foiled when a cab- bie drove by and saw the driver's door open on the vehicle. The ignition was found punched out, but nothing was stolen from inside. Police also report thieves tried to take a 1989 GMC pickup truck from a Shanley St. residence but couldn't get it started. The truck was found on the road with the ignition punched out, say police. Thieves were finally successful in stealing a vehicle after a red 1987 Chev Suburban was stolen from a John St. home. Police say the vehicle was backed into the drive- way and had a sixteen- foot bass boat, 55-horse- power Yamaha motor and trailer attached. Thieves managed to steal the truck, but could not go far as the transmis- sion was burned out and the vehicle did not work well. Police later found the truck smashed against the rear wall of Shopper's Drug Mart on Queen St. around 5 a.m. that morn- ing. The boat, motor and trailer were also found there. The truck is valued at $8,000, the boat at $4,000 and the trailer at $1,500 say police.
