"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 4, 1997 - 9 Awards handed out at Rotary dinner By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Two local women have been presented with the Port Perry Rotary Club's highest honor. During the club's 16th Annual Past President's Dinner club at Trillium Trails, club president John Richardson announced that Debbie McGarry and Heather Haliburton-Smith would be co-winners of the 1997 Rotarian of the Year award. "After much thought and discussion, we decid- ed to award both of these ladies the award," said Mr. Richardson shortly after the Oct. 24 presen- tation. "They are both very hardworking Rotarians -- the backbone of the Port Perry Rotary Club. Neither one knows how to say no; they just ask how we want it done." Mr. Richardson said both women are heavily involved in all the club's community events including: ArtFest, Aquarama, the Monte Carlo Casino Night and the club's Christmas Kids' Party. "This is the highest award given out by the club. The plaque comes from their peers; it shows how much everyone appreciates the work that they do," said Mr. Richardson. "Everyone is consid- ered, but both women were always there and supported everything that we did. They were always willing to give up their time and work, with a smile."
