Councillors decided to put off a decision on increasing their pay until a public review of the issue is held. They deferred the decision until 1998 as well as agreeing to set up an community advi- sory committee to review the matter and make recommendations. Scugog Regional Councillor, Marilyn Pearce said the issue is not a pay raise, but a reimbursement. "We have tabled the ZN yy) Taxpayer reps will examine issue changes until a citizen's advisory group can take a look at it and make a decision. This is just a reimbursement for the councillors. "Many people think this is a pay hike, but it is not," she added, explaining provincial legislation will reduce councillors' take home pay. "The government is trying to get rid of our one-third tax-free allowance so they can save money," said coun- cillor Pearce, who's not seeking re-election.
