Councillors decided to put off a decision on increasing their pay until a public review of the issue is held. They deferred the decision until 1998 as well as agreeing to set up an community advi- sory committee to review the matter and make recommendations. Scugog Regional Councillor, Marilyn Pearce said the issue is not a pay raise, but a reimbursement. "Many people think this is a pay hike, but it is not," she added, explaining provincial legislation will reduce councillors' take home pay.
