Tempers flared when Mayor Hall was talking about how his council supported the Lishman proposal to relocate in Nestleton. "It was not quite as easy as Mr. Malcolm suggests," Mr. Hall was saying when Mr. Malcolm replied, "we need to elect new council members." Mayor Hall retorted sharply: "Not ones that sue us." Mr. Malcolm, his voice rising in anger, glared over at the mayor and warned that his reference to the law suit was "getting close to libel." That was all that was said on the platform between the two, and Mr. Malcolm later was reluctant to discuss the issue, saying it is "over and settled." Mr. Malcolm launched legal action against the current council members over the process by which Marilyn Pearce was appointed to regional council after the death of Yvonne Christie. He was one of numerous residents of the community who submitted their names for the position. But when council voted on who would be Scugog's rep, three members voted for Councillor Pearce and three for Ken Gadsden, also a member of council. The tie was broken by the township clerk drawing Mrs. Pearce's name from a hat. There were no votes for any of the non-council contenders. Mr. Malcolm withdrew the legal challenge last fall, but only after the township had spent money on a lawyer to defend members of council in the event the issue went to court. Mayor Hall said after the meeting he men- tioned the issue because he is still angry and bitter over the incident. GREAT DESIGN AND ENGINEERING MAKE Dodge Viper Coupe ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
