With the election less than a week away -- it's next Monday, Nov. 10 -- YOTOMON'Y PORCH employees at the Scugog Township offices are gear- ing up for what is being called the most important vote in the township's his- tory. Poll stations and ballot boxes are being arranged and set up and election cards have been sent out Saturday November 8 7-10 p.m. LIVE BAND "Rise" in the mail to approxi- mately 16,000 eligible voters. According to Kim Coates at the local munic- ipal offices, a list of 15,961 names has been drafted up for the Nov. 10 election. "Hopefully we'll get more people out to this election than we did the previous one," she said last week. "In 1994 we didn't even have half the eligible vot- ers turn out, and that was kind of disappointing. There is a good race this year, and hopefully the people of Scugog will be more involved." Of 14,732 eligible voters in 1994, only 6,554 report- ed to the polling stations for a measly 44.5 per cent turnout. "To be sure of every- thing, voters should bring identification, but you must remember that you can only vote once," said Ms Coates. "People may own prop- erty in three or four wards and get three or four elec- tion cards in the mail, but you may only cast your decision once. "And, you can only vote where you reside," she adds.
