The local boys squeaked by Keswick 6-5 in the opener. Here, Port's goaltender tries to follow the puck while one of Port's defencemen attempt to clear a Nobleking attacker away from the front of the net. Local boys sport a 0-1-2 record after three games Cashway Midgets on the search for first win after falling short in three tries In the first game of the year for the Port Perry midget house league team, who are sponsored by Cashway Lumber, the local boys came up short against Lindsay in a high scor- ing affair. Goal scorers for the home squad were as follows: Jeremy Pare assisted by Lawrence * Cook and Jeremy Hall, followed up by a goal on a low slap shot from the point by Scott Cunningham. After a slow first period, coach "Beav" Hall had his players fired up and ready to go. This paid dividends with a goal only nine seconds into the second period to open the scoring by Joel Van Camp after being set up by linemates Jon Sanders and Ken Ellis. Scott Cunningham was next to find the net for . Port Perry, getting his second of the game, assisted by Jon Sanders. In the third period Scott Cunningham eompleted his hat trick after being set up by Jon Sanders. Late in the third period Jeremy Hall tried to put together a comeback for Port Perry as he found the net with assists being handed out to Justin Sheehey and Russ Gaudet, but it was not enough as Port Perry took the loss, 9-6. The next game for Port Perry was in Keswick and it turned out to be quite a physical contest as these two teams played to a 1-1 draw. The goal scorer for Port Perry was Joel Van Camp who beat the Keswick goalie with a wrist shot to the top cor- ner of the net. Chris Laughlin played a solid game between the pipes for Port Perry to help his team earn the tie in this aggressively played game In Port Perry's third game of the season, they were handed a defeat by Uxbridge in a close game. Uxbridge jumped out to an early lead at 9:45 of the first. It seemed the score would remain intact until the second period, except for a last second effort by Todd Mitchell who scored on a high slap shot with just one sec- ond remaining, assisted by Jeremy Hall and Lawrence Cook. In the second period Jeff Harrison was playing very aggressive and seemed to have got the best of an Uxbridge player during a minor disagreement in front of the net. Port remained scoreless until early in the third period when an Uxbridge defence- man got his pass picked off at the face off which lead to a breakaway by Tim Wray, evening up the score at 2-2. But, Uxbridge would take the lead with a late third period goal. It appeared that Jeremy Hall had tied the game for Port Perry but a questionable call by the referee led to a disallowed goal and a defeat for Port Perry in this close game. John Mackey scores one goal and adds four assists Comets fly by Wolves to post a 7-5 victory By Jon Sanders Special to The Star Compton Cable TV Comets 7 Pineridge Sports Wolves 5 In this very offensive game the Comets came out on top of the Wolves 7-5. The Comets opened up the scoring when Greg Warriner netted his first two in this game after being set up by Gary Lance and Jody Peters. But the Wolves responded with two goals to get their first lead of the game as Bill Bridge scored his first of two goals in this game with the assist going to Phil Lalonde. Jamie Menzies then put the Wolves ahead after taking passes from Ron Zaparaniuk and Steve Lee. The Comets answered right back though as Ron Compton found the net assisted by John Mackey and Bob Lee. The Wolves then jumped back into the lead when Bill Bridge beat the Comets goalie for the second time in this game after receiving passes from Ken Smart Jr. and Ken Smart but the Wolves lead would not last long as the Comets exploded for four unanswered goals. They were scored by John Mackey, assisted by Darcy Milligan and Bill Foote; Darcy Milligan from John Mackey; Greg Warriner who found the net for the second time in this game assisted by Gary Lance and Bill Foote; and Ron Compton who also put his second of the game behind the Wolves' goalie after being set up by John Mackey. The Wolves tried to create a comeback when Doug Brown put one in assisted by Jamie Menzies and then Bill Bridge scored his second of the game and the Wolves found themselves down by only one goal. But the Comets would ut the game out of reach for the 'olves when Darcy Milligan scored his second of the game assisted by John Mackey and Jody Peters to give . the victory to the Comets in this back and forth game. © J & D Carpentry Hawks 2 Taylor Fuels Aces 2 In this well played game the Hawks and the Aces played to a 2-2 draw. Both goalies played well in this game; Wayne Lown for the'Aces and Sean Parker for the Hawks who was filling in for Ray Gibson. The Hawks got things started when Dave Burnett found the net after being set up b Dave Milton. The Aces answered bie two minutes later when Jarrett Harman beat the Hawks goalie after taking a pass from Ken Little. The Hawks regained their lead as Joe Curran scored unassisted. There would be no more scoring until late in the third period when the Aces were giving their best effort to tie this game up and it paid off when Mike eer put one behind the Hawks goalie after being set up by Bill Weisflock to close out the scoring in this evenly matched game. Cedar Creek Contracting ay Glippers § Pizza Delight Roosters 2 . In an offensive game the high scor- ing Clippers picked up another victory as they handed the defeat to the Roosters. The Clippers jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead. Clarence Stephenson, who had three points in this game, opened the scoring for the Clippers as he was set up by Jim Duncan and Mike Passmore. Two min- utes later Mike Passmore beat the Roosters goalie with assists going to Clarence Stephenson and Bruce Gracie. Richie Lefort was next to score for the Clippers as he got his first of three points in this game after receiving a pass from Brad Meekin. With 47 seconds left in the second period the Clippers scored their fourth goal when Steve Dunn was set up .by John Harman and Richie Lefort to end an aggressively played second period in which six penalties were called. The Clippers continued their offensive attack in the third period as Brad Meekin found the back of the net with the assist going to Richie Lefort. Two minutes later Clarence Stephenson scored after taking a pass from Richie Lefort. Then the Roosters generated some offense of their own as Dave Dickson tried to start a come- back for the Roosters as he scored two goals. His first was assisted by Mike Driscoll and his second was off a pass from Jason Warner. But that would be all for the scoring as the Clippers shut down the Roosters from there as. they picked up the victory in this game. : Harrison Fuels Flames 4 Van and Truck World Sharks 1 In this game the Flames played well both offensively and defensively to earn the 4-1 victory over the Sharks. Doug MacSween played a solid game between the pipes for the Flames mak- ing many key saves in this game. The Flames grabbed the early lead scoring three first period goals. Rick Sheehey led the way for the Flames in this game with two goals. His first opened up the scoring for the Flames after he was set up by Todd Wilbur and Larry Pilkey. His second came after he received passes from Mike Gilmour and Larry Pilkey. The Flames would then find themselves up 3-0 when Mark Decosta found the net after tak- ing passes from Doug Bronson and Steve Groves. In the second period the Sharks would beat the Flames goalie Doug MacSween as Rick Campbell scored on an unassisted effort but that would be all the scoring that the Sharks would do in this game and in the third period the Flames added some insur- ance as mark Decosta closed out the scoring in this game with the assists being handed out to Steve Groves and Brian Pomery. Ball Callery Senators 2 Monsma Electric Chargers 1 In this low scoring affair the Senators, who have been slumpin recently, upset the Chargers 2-1. The Senators opened the scoring with one minute left in the first period when Brett Laycoe beat the Chargers goalie after being set up by Chris Brain, The Senators lead would not last very long as the Chargers answered back when ~ Willie Edwards scored during a scram- ble in front of the net assisted by Jeff Card and Wayne Norton. The Senators would then score in the third period as Bret Laycoe scored his second of 'the game on a nice snapshot to the bottom left corner of the net to give the Senators the victory, |
