Port Bunnies fall just short in two recent matches On November 2 the Port Perry Bunnies ringette team, spon- sored by Air Durham Heating & A/C, travelled a short distance to Uxbridge where they went up against Whitby. Melissa Perry played in goal for the team and allowed just five shots to get past her all game. Port Perry had several opportunities to score, however many shots just failed to find the net. Scott Urguhart scored for Port Perry in the first period and Timothy Edwards got his second goal of the season when he broke away from the Whitby defence and put the ring in the net late in the final period. The final score was 5-2 for Whitby. On November 9 the Bunnies travelled to Harman park to go up against Oshawa. Both teams played well, how- ever it was Oshawa who scored the first goal. It was end-to-end action as both teams had near goals, however it took a great shot by Chad DeCosta to put his Port Perry team on the score- board. Oshawa ended the period leading 2-1. Port Perry came back skating well in the final period. Morgan Barr continued to play well as the team's goalie and went on to shut Oshawa down for the remainder of the game. Vanessa Wilde made several nice plays allowing her team many shots on net. The teams perserverance paid off as Samantha MacDonald finally beat the Oshawa goalie resulting in the game ending in a 2-2 tie. staffed Minden squad who had only six play- ers. The boys got a quick start by getting on the board first with a great setup by Matt McGarry to Scott Brownson. Our next goal was scored by Darren Royle (Bottles), assisted by Mike (Westside) Wadsworth. A scramble in front of the Minden net resulted in Jason Frost's quick shot upstairs; assists were credited to Matt Smart. and Mike Wadsworth with his second assist of the night. The Minden squard popped in three goals in a span of one minute and seventeen seconds to tie the game going into the second period. Port came out slug- gish, surrendering one early goal to Minden allowing them to take the lead 4 to 3. Port's only goal in the second was scored by Matt to beat the goaltender to tie the game. The Minden squad again went on a run with two unanswered goals going into the third. The defense held the Minden team at bay in the third and there was no scoring until late in the game when Scott Brownson danced out of the corner and popped one in past the netminder. The goal must have sparked some well-needed intensity in the boys because less than two minutes later Tyler Houthuys scored with a blast from the hash marks on a nice setup by Joel Thomson to tie the game. Our goalie, Trevor Doan, kept us in the game by practi- $51 standing on his hea Late in the game Matt McGarry added his second goal of the night with a sweet pass from Scott B. to take the lead. The second period opened up with a goal scored by Scott Brownson who dazzled the goalie on a breakaway with a beau- ty pass from Mike Wadsworth. Things heated up when it seemed like the Lindsay team was not accus- tomed to losing and they resorted to vio- penalties, which our boys capitalized on. Joe Schembri scored a dandy powerplay goal with assists to Rob Taylor and Tyler Houthuys. Then Darren Royle made a sweet move to put one past the Lindsay goaltender with fine passing by Mike Wadsworth. To finish off the scoring, Soctt Brownson put it upstairs in a hurry on an amazing pass from Darren Royle and Matt McGarry. The boys won the game with a score 5 to 0. The boys are credited with keeping their cool and congrat- ulations to Trevor Doan for his shutout. Strong efforts and determina- tion were major factors in the two wins. The team thanks our coaches Peter Christie, Steve Desautels and Brian Stevenson. A big thanks goes out to Stuart Houthuys who filled in on the bench in Lindsay.
