Christmas Day is quick- ly approaching, and time to Donations pouring in at food bank make contributions to the local food bank is running out. With just over a week to go until Dec. 25, Operation Scugog organizers are urg- ing those who need help, and those who wish to help, to come out to the township's anly food bank. Anne Wanninkhof, a volunteer with Operation Scugog, says that as Christmas approaches, people are starting to get more and more into the holiday giving spirit. "We've had quite a few donations now and we are well on our way to having another successful year of helping people out," she said. "I'm very happy with the way people have responded to newspaper articles and calls for help around the community to make this Christmas a good one for people who wouldn't otherwise have a merry Christmas." People are still calling to "adopt" families for the holidays, she says, adding that late-comers looking for a basket will also be welcome. They have been calling to ask how they can adopt -- present trimmings and presents for a family -- or just drop off donations. "And, as well, if there are any families who wish to have help this season I will make sure there is a box made up for them; no one should go hungry at Christmas." Mrs. Wanninkhof expects anywhere between 140 to 160 families looking for help this year, which has been the average for the past few years. "The kids in Scugog Operation Scugog received a donation of $400 from brothers Jay and Mike Adam of Van and Truck World Saturday morning, and another $100 from the SHL hockey team they play for. In back row are Mike Adam holding daughter Jennifer, Anne Wanninkhof, and Jay Adam. In front are Lee-Ann, Courtney, Jaimie Lynn and Tiffany Adam. The Adams challenge other businesses to match their contribution. Township will have a happy Christmas -- their faces will be glowing this year -- thanks to the gen- erosity of the people of the township." Anyone interested in dropping off any donations can do so at Port Perry . IGA, Reid's Independent, Grocers, Mike's Basic Foods, or at Philp Pontiac, where they will receive a voucher for a lube and oil. Schools and churches are also helping out she adds. Anyone wishing to set up an appointment for a donation or pto adopt a family can call Anne at 985-7271 or Kathryn Gundry at 985-8015. | SLO NY BN 3X0) SAN € § Of hd JO Ne NT {TEI CR CR {11 ph 54 YSye EMIEL'S PLACE -- In downtown Port Perry . 985-2066 985-2257 OY = YN Happy 30th Anniversary Jim & Carol Dr. & Mrs. Keith Elliot and Mr. & Mrs. Harold Dobie of Tara, wish to announce the engagement of their children Tamara Michel Elliot Scott Charles Dobie Beatty love your family to The wedding is to take place in Prince Albert September 5th, 1998.
