His slide accompanied topic will be "The Treasures of Ontario's Backroads." Ron is well known to Ontario readers for his books on Ontario's past including his two volume set "Ghost Towns in Ontario." Through his nine books on the history of Ontario, he has uncovered much of the long forgotten history of our province. His long time fascination with the rail- ways of Ontario, has led to major works on the topic: "The Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore," and his latest book "Ghost Railways of Ontario." Ron last addressed the Lake Scugog Historical Society in March 1996 when he showed slides on the "Ghost Railways . The result of the study will be the selection of a new landfill site within the County or the expansion of an existing landfill where there is additional municipal owned land. The "candidate new landfill" locations are the County Rd. 17 Site, (lots 1 & 2, con. 10, Emily Twp.), the County Rd. 18 Site (lots 8 & 9, con. 1, Ops Twp.), the County Rd. 57 Site (lots 8 & 9, con. 14, Manvers Twp.), and the "candidate existing landfill for expansion" is the Lindsay/Ops landfill (lot 26, con. 6, Ops Twp.). This was extremely well received and a large crowd was in atten- dance. He has also written "Ghost Towns of Ontario, A Field Guide," "Ghost Towns of Canada" and "Backroads of Ontario" and it will be this last topic which will be featured on his presentation to the society on April 23. The meeting will be held in the base- ment hall of St. John's Presbyterian Church on Queen Street in Port Perry. Refreshments will be served at the con- clusion of the meeting and the audience will have an opportunity to meet Ron Brown. A selection of his books will be on sale and he will be available to sign his work. All members of the society will be admitted free while non-members will be charged $2 for the presentation.
