Police responded to a call around 4:30 a.m. on April 14 when a hay wagon, containing a load of hay, was set ablaze at a Shirley Rd. residence. Firefighters from Station One of the Scugog Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the initial call to find the wagon fully engulfed in flames, say police. The owner of the wagon could not guess why it had been set on fire, and called the blaze suspicious. The Ontario Fire Marshal was not called to investigate, say poliee. The destroyed wagon was valued at $2,800 while the load of hay was worth $450, police say. Four days later Durham Police were called to the same home after close to $1000 in tools were stolen from a storage garage adja- cent to the home. Police report that thieves broke into the garage by kicking in or breaking a front door. Once inside, they removed a arc welder, val- ued at $500; two battery chargers worth $100; a drill estimated to be worth $100; and 75-feet of 220 electrical cable, and a length of Number Seven heavy electrical wire.
