Their deep concern seems to be rather recent. Ontario previously agreed to Ottawa's proposed package for victims, which limited compensation to those who contracted the disease from tainted blood after 1986. There was no recorded protest to the deal prior to the public outcry over the legislation. Yes, the Liberal party forced members to vote in favor of a bill which for many repre- sented an abandonment of unfortunate and innocent victims. Yes, the settlement is mean, cheap and insulting. And yes, it was unseemly of the Prime Minister to make the issue a vote of confidence -- a move usually reserved for fiscal matters -- thus forcing vote of support on a matter of moral judge- ment. Cornish Public School and elected Norman Cafik to carry the Liberal banner in the newly formed Ontario Riding. Roy Comish, the only charter member of the Port Perry Lions Club, cut the huge birthday cake at the Club's 30th Anniversary Celebration. Mrs. Gladys Archer, Port Perry, attended a welcome home party in honor of her grand- daughter, Wendy Brydon, R.N., who just returned from India where she had worked at the Christian Medical Centre for the past 18 months. 20 YEARS AGO Wednesday, May 10, 1978 Eight juveniles and 16 youths from the Blackstock area received over 100 charges after a six-week investigation by police. A petition signed by 30 business people within the area proposed for a Business Improvement Area was presented and effectively defeated the formation of a BIA for downtown Port Perry. Employees of Flamingo Pastries held a buffet and party at which Dorothy Bourgeois presented a flamingo sculpture by Bill Lishman to Mrs. Marj Jackson. Port Perry hospital honored retiring employees Ruth Best, Willema Goose, Joyce Howsam and Mary MacLennan. Dave and Marg Waite, of Nonquon Travel were named members of Air Canada's 'Million Mile Club' for booking a million miles in travel with the airline.
