"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, May 20, 1998 - 15 Borelians win The Borelians Community Theatre of Port Perry has won the Elsje Award for the Production in Ontario Community theatre in 1998 for their play "Ten Lost Years." The awards ceremony Best, By A Male In A Lead Role 0 The Musicians Paul Chilco, Shawn Crockard, Bob Courtice, Mel Norrish, and Mac Ward for musical enhancement of the Production Q The Entire Cast for vocal accomplishment The Borelians gained entry into this festival by winning the ACT-CO Festival (Association of Community Theatre of Central Ontario) in Toronto on April 18. The other pro- ductions in Owen Sound were: "The Heiress" from Burlington (Western Ontario); "The Stillborn Lover" from Kingston (Eastern Ontario); "The Miser" from Sault Ste. Marie" (Northern Ontario). The Borelians have rep- resented ACT-CO four times in the past with "Nurse Jane Goes To Hawaii" 1984 in Sudbury; "Nobody Loves A Dragon" 1988 in North Bay; "Night of January 16th" 1993 in Peterborough, and "Ten Lost Years" 1988 in Owen Sound. The Elsie Award seems provincial competition with 'Ten Lost Years' to be a family affair, as Susan Ellis produced the winning play "Nobody Loves A Dragon" in 1988 and husband Dave pro- duced this year's winner ag well as acting in the 1984 play and producing and directing the 1993 entry. was held at Owen Sound on Sunday, May 17. Producer and Director Dave Ellis accepted the presti- gious award on behalf of the Borelians. Adjudicator Richard Howard gave the Outstanding Production award "to a play that came closest to the playwright's intent with a firm grasp of the subtext and strong directorial vision." The Borelians dominat- ed the awards with 13 nom- inations and seven "Betsy" awards.
