The Powell Motorsports Pontiac finished the three hour event less than a second ahead of the Firebird of John Heinricy. The MultiMatic Motorsports Mustang of Scott Maxwell and Jason Priestley came home in third spot. The Mosport Rally for Sport Bikes has expanded to a four day event for 1998 with a fantastic lineup of features to attract riders of all levels, on July 16, 17, 18 and 19 at Mosport Race Track, presented by Honda Canada. The concept was developed to give sport bike riders the opportunity to ride on one of the world's great race courses, and experience unlike everyday street riding, and one that improves a rider's skills overall. New for 1998 is the Supershow Track Riding School on Thursday, July 16. This all day course combines classroom sessions with track sessions, and deals with all aspects of track riding including proper cornering, riding technique, safe- ty, gearing, etc., and specifically with getting to know Mosport. Students will also be getting track tips from known racers who are among the best at riding this track. Track sessions for registered riders will run all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a half day available on Sunday. Sessions are divided into four 'rider ability' levels: Street, Fast Street, Hotshoe and Racer. All riders are required to have proper leathers, boots, bikes will not require 'race' preparation, bikes must be track ready and pass 'safety tech' inspection each day. Corner workers, flag men, ambulance and medi- cal staff will be on site. There is also a fantagti€ lineup of fea- tures for attendees. Among the non-stop sport bike activities are new bike dis- plays, demo rides, factory race teams, clubs and associations, a Racer Paddock Mosport Rally for Sport Bikes to be held this week "again this year, the 'Cops' Police Racing gloves and helmets. Spectators will see their favorite racing stars go for the checkered flag on Canada's fastest road course. The Mosport Rally four day weekend Superticket is $30 which includes camp- ing, parking and program along with all Rally features and attractions. There has been two months of activities at our local courts. Underway are the house leagues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. They are ably run by Sally Martin. She juggles a large membership turnout to arrange fun matches with partners of compatible abil- ities. Junior league play is on Wednesday afternoons, Seniors on Monday morn- ing and Ladies Day on Wednesday. The ladies are having their second popular pot luck luncheon on July 15 at Angela's - bring food and swim suit. A singles ladder is on an "arrange your own match" schedule. ! Durham Region League "A" and "B" teams play once r week, at home or away, on Monday and Wednesday evenings. An interested gallery is usually on hand to watch some exciting ten- nis and cheer the players. Currently the "B" team is tied for first place. They were Consolation Champs last season. The "A" team is presently in fourth place, and from that position last year, rallied in the playoffs and finals in September to become Durham "A" Regional Champions. The club Mixed Doubles Tournament concluded on June 28. In a round-robin format, Jeff Murray and Diane Burt emerged as champions for 1998. On July 25 and 26 the club hosts its Men's and Ladies" Doubles Tourney. Another social tennis event with food, fun and prizes. Spectate and/or play. The CE bulletin board at the courts 1s kept updated with infor- mation and signup sheets. Junior Summer Tennis Camp begins on July 20 and runs two weeks, Monday to Friday until July 31. The 9 a.m. to noon time period is full and a second camp, 1 to 4 p.m. is now open for registra- tion. Lots of space for begin- ners and advancing junior players eight to 16 years. Please call 985-3091 to register. A club Junior Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 8. Mike Neuber is the club pro and instructs the lessons, junior league, junior camp and junior tourney.
