------------------ 4- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 11, 1998 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Streets alive with sound of JAZZ! . KK 7% £7 Z Photos by Chris Hall The streets of Port Perry were filled with the sweet sounds of jazz music Saturday (Aug. 8) as the Business Improvement Area (BIA) held its first annual jazz festival: All Day, All Night, All Jazz. Various prominent locations in town were turned into temporary venues as more than a dozen great acts made their way here. Palmer Park and the park area beside the BIA office were the main stages for the event, with a travelling stage used as well. The headlining act of the Kieran Overs Quartet, featuring special guest performer Jane Bunnett, was held at Town Hall 1873 that evening. Some of the attractions from the day's events were, from top left, Alex Pangman and Her Alley Cats - here the Toronto- + | based jazz band wowed a large audience Saturday afternoon when they put on a 45-minute show. Using great stage sense and a touch of humor, the quintet received plenty of applause from the appreciative crowd; catching the crowd's eye was the trumpet player from the Alley Cats, who, when not pleasing the audience with his playing or vocal skills, tried his luck with stand-up comedy. The Trish Colter Septet had the audience clapping away late Saturday afternoon at Palmer Park when she took to the Gazebo stage and belted out a few catchy tunes; and Mike Carson, bassist for the Alley Cats, impressed a small crowd with his solo playing before he took to the main stage.
