What's happening at St. John's The 1998 version of St. John's Annual Fall Supper, on Saturday, Nov. 7 was a great suc- cess. Nearly 250 people from Scugog and sur- rounding communities enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner and the com- pany of friends and neighbours. We thank the wonderful group of volunteers, led by Ann Carmichael and Charlotte Rutherford, who worked hard all evening to keep the food flowing, to wash dishes, set tables and serve cof- fee and tea. We also thank all who contribut- ed to the success of the evening and in particular our guests who turned out in such numbers and who, in some cases, had to wait quite a long time before being served. The attendance was so spec- tacular that at times were overwhelmed and Just couldn't keep pace. We do apologize for those delays and we thank those who waited so patiently for their good humour. We are looking closely at our organiza- tion and we can assure you that we will do every- thing in our power to avoid any similar prob- lem in the future. On Sunday morning, Nov. 8 during coffee time, birthday greetings were sung for Helen Green and Matthew Campbell. On Sunday evening St. John's hosted the Annual Ecumenical Evensong. Participating were the Anglican, Roman Catholic, United and Presbyterian Churches of Cartwright. This too was a great suc- cess with the choirs of St. © Johns, St. Bernadette's and Blackstock United Churches joining to pro- vide the music and singing for this very mov- ing service. A large con- gregation drawn from all the participating churches heard musical presentations by each of the three choirs and an anthem sung by the com- bined choirs under the direction of Catherine Corden, choir director at St. John's. Scriptures were read by representa- tives of Nestleton- Cadmus Presbyterian, Blackstock United and St. Bernadette's. Father Hugh Kernohan (St. John's) conducted the service, Father Paul Hogan (St. Bernadette's) delivered the homily and Rev. David Shearman (United Church) led the intercessions. Following the service, members of the choirs and congregations gath- ered in the Parish Hall. HEATING [| ALUMINUM CONTRACTORS OBR VICE 6 BHSIINESS D i | of ] oO | HEATING CO.
