The folks at St. John's really rallied round on Sunday to help the flood stricken people of Honduras and Nicaragua. The Sunday Offertory was for dis- aster relief in those Central American countries and, as a result of the generosity of mem- bers of the congregation, more than $1,000 will be sent and earmarked for the relief efforts in those countries. If any from St. John's missed this opportu- nity to contribute and would like to. do so (or, indeed should any of our readers wish to give something to this worthy cause) there is still time. You can mail your contribution to PWRDF at St. John's Anglican Church, P.O. Box 194, Blackstock, ON LOB 1BO, Remember, too, that the victims of the disaster need your prayers. Lake Scugog Historical Society Last Thursday night we had OR FAX 985-3708 a very good talk by Fred Christie about Aunt Lizzie's diary. She came to Canada in 1844 and the family started farming in 1854. She mentioned the open- ing of the railway to Uxbridge in 1873. In 1870 there was a meeting about maybe getting hydro. One could travel from Port Perry to Liverpool England for $20.80. Kid gloves were 30 cents, a pound of butter was 20 cents, and the Sunday collection at the community church was 15 cents. Aunt Lizzie's diary was over 200 typed pages writ- ten on her 100 years of living. There was an updated report on the Palmer House and a change at the Chiropractic Society level with a different group our society is now dealing with. Ray Pollard We are sorry to learn that Ray is not too well. Ray was a great financial backer during my period of running the Regatta. : Christian Fellowship Meetings Val called me and thanked me for my article in last week's paper dealing with their fellow- ship meeting. His wife hears the commotion, knows he can't swim and runs down to the bank. Why do you think she ran to the bank? A girl raised her hand and asked, To draw out all the savings.
