"A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 23, 1999 - 5 SIU continues shooting probe Almost two months after a Sunderland man was killed during an altercation with police officers, the province's Special Investigations Unit contin- ues its investigation. SIU spokesperson Gail Scala said last week that the status of the case remains unchanged. "There's a lot of work involved in this case; there is still a lot of forensic evi- dence to look at," she said. "The investigators are still busy working on it. It could be a few more weeks yet. There is nothing new to report yet." The three officers deemed witness officers -- York Region's PCs Mike Hoskins and Randy Martin and Durham's PC Al Robins -- have not been inter- viewed by the SIU, while other witnesses have been "interviewed and re-inter- viewed as deemed needed" said Ms Scala. Lorenzo Romagnuolo, 20, was being sought after he allegedly made threats against York Regional offi- cers following a traffic inci- dent involving one of his brothers. He was arrested, then released on bail. It has been widely spec- ulated that either Mr. Romagnuolo or one of his sons attempted to grab an officer's gun and the weapon was discharged during the struggle. Ms Scala confirmed ear- lier that "at least three shots" were fired during the altercation and that "all three officers" dis- charged their 40-calibre semi-automatics, killing Tony Romagnuolo and wounding his 17-year-old co t were rem CONGRATULATIONS Marilyn Beacock-White The management and staff of Philp Pontiac Buick Ltd. would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Marilyn who once again has qualified for the prestigious General Motors of Canada "Sales Marketing Guild" award.
