Two charged after scuffle with police A pair of Sunderland- area brothers were ticket- ed for being intoxicated in a public place after a brief scuffle in an area parking lot last weekend. Durham Regional Police report that around 1:15 a.m. a fight broke out between two men in front of Trader Sam's Tavern on Scugog St. Two officers were in the area and responded to the scene where they wit- nessed two fighting. They pulled the two apart, but the pair con- tinued to taunt one anoth- er into another fight, police say. One male was asked to leave twice and was final- ly arrested after he refused. The second man was also asked to leave and was later arrested when he did not comply with the officers' orders. Two Sunderland-area brothers, aged 20 and 18, were taken by cruiser to 17 Division in Oshawa where they were given liquor tickets for being intoxicated in a public place. During last week's monthly Police Services Board meeting in Whitby, a decision was made to put off the announcement of a site and selected bid for at least weeks. The board, along with representatives from Port Perry's 26 Division station, met in-camera for more than an hour before making the 'announcement. This is the second time an announcement on the new station for Scugog, Uxbridge, and Brock has been delayed. Six bids promoting eight different sites for 'the new station were accepted by the service by the Feb. 15 deadline. The service was to make a recommendation to the Police Services Board on March 18, and a proposal was to be brought before regional council on April 7. The delay in the announcement allows officials more time to look over the proposals, an important aspect in making the right deci- sion, says 26 Division Inspector Chuck Mercier. "Anytime you spend another two. this kind of money you want to take a look at everything and make sure you make the right choice," said Insp. Mercier last Thursday afternoon, refusing to release the estimated costs for the project. "We're looking at the whole package because sometimes things change when you get answers to some ques- tions, and you may want to look at other options. We just don't want to shut the door on any of our options." All the bids received were solid ones, he added. "All of the bids have their strengths and weaknesses. It's up to" us to decipher which one will be best for everyone," said Insp. Mercier. "We're not going to make a decision in haste." Durham Regional Police in 26 Division have outgrown their current station -- locat- ed on Old Simcoe Rd., just north of Reach Rd. -- and are now seeking to construct a building of 10,000 to 15,000 square feet for close to 60 staff. Proposals were accepted for property anywhere within a 10- km radius of the inter- section of Regional Rd. 8 (Reach St.) and Hwy. 12. fad Arena & Old Town Hall Blackstock Rec Hall, FOR RENT The ice is out.
