EC ik ci MAA "A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 18, 1999 - 19 By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Local charities and organizations seeking funding are urged to take a trip to Dynamic Car Wash. Owners Paul and Sandy Michel are looking to continue their giving ways this summer by holding a charity car wash once a month at their Vanedward Dr. location. "We're just looking to put something back into the community... we've always helped out in this way or that and thought we would continue it right here," Mr. Michel said last week. Car washes always seem to be a popu- lar fundraiser, said Mrs. Michel. : "People seem to have them all summer long to raise funds for all sorts of things, so we figured we'd give them a chance to offer a quality car wash and maybe they'll make even more money," she said. Once a month, for the next three months -- June, July, and August -- the Michels will set aside a day where all the money paid by customers who use the Port Perry car wash welcomes charity fundraisers this summer automated "tunnel" wash will be handed over to a selected charity or organization. Mr. Michel said the groups can sell hotdogs, hamburgers, and pop too if they want to raise more money. Those who wish to take part in the fundraiser must bring a proposal down to the car wash. "We just want them to come down and explain to us why they need the money, what it will be used for," said Mr. Michel. "Who it is doesn't matter; Port Perry Minor Baseball, Minor Hockey, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Operation Scugog.... we live in this community and we'd like to help out." In the past the Michels have been members of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce, worked with the local YMCA, helped out with their church and have been involved with a number of other community events. Paul and Sandy Michel are offering the Dynamic Car Wash premises for use by local charities this summer. Get your dog a college education Dogs are great pets and their company has even been proven thera- peutic in some cases. But how many of us have said, "this dog would be great with a little obedience train- ing?" But as with many "to dos," we put it off until it's more convenient or until we find a more affordable option. Now you and your dog can enroll in Durham College's ~ progressive motivational training program for dogs six months or older. Responsible Owners & Best Friends is a series of two courses, 14 hours each, designed to teach your dog basic obedience commands including "go to place," the long down stay, as well as tone of voice and how to praise and correct your dog fairly yet effectively. At a cost of just $69.55, you now have an affordable and conve- nient way to train your best friend.
