"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" O PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 22, 1999 - 9 New galle By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Another space for local artists will be created on Canada Day, when pho- tographer Charlotte Hale opens her studio and gallery in Port Perry. Veni Vide is located on the second floor above Brock's Department Store on Queen St. Its 990 square feet will be used as a combination gallery for displaying varying types of art, and a studio for Ms Hale's photography venture. She hopes to continue hosting shows with themes. She wants to stage as many multi- media displays as possi- ble, allowing a variety of area artists to show their . work. The first show, which opens Canada Day (July 1), has a black and white theme. In addition to photos, the gallery will display glass, metal and wood works. "What I'm looking at doing is having shows with a theme, and having different media within that theme," said Ms. Hale, who wants to tap into what she regards as a rich and creative arts community here: "There's 'a huge, huge amount of work going on." The gallery is the real- ization of a vision Ms Hale has had since com- ing to the area 10 years ago. She's always wanted a space to show her work and that of others, and a studio in which to take photos. But until now, the right space hasn't become available. She says the Brock's building, on Queen St. in the heart 2 ry opens on Canada Day he rs Photographer Charlotte Hale's new gallery in Port Perry opens July 1 of Port Perrys pic- turesque downtown, per- fect. "This is my dream coming true, and it feels really good," she said. She's quick to point out that the new space will not aim to compete with existing galleries in the area, but rather to complement them, and create more space in which artists can show. in hand with other gal- "I'd like to work hand leries, and I think this one is unique," said Ms Hale.
