Awarded annually by the club, the Lloyd and Marion Lee Community Volunteer Award is pre- sented to a member of the community who displays a passion for helping oth- ers and the area in gener- al, says club member Rodd Foster. "About five years ago we decided to have a com- munity volunteer award to thank those who help out here," he said, noting there is a nomination process for the award. The eventual winner is selected by a committee. "Barb is involved in just about everything in this community," said Mr. Foster. Mrs. Ward is involved with the Greenbank Minor Ball program and is a member of the out- field fence committee, the park and hall board, the Greenbank Church Choir, and works on the United Church catering commit- tee. "This award is impor- tant; important to her, us and the community. This is our chance to honour those people who work so hard in the community," said Mr. Foster. "She has earned the respect and admiration of the community, and this is our way to show her." Mrs. Ward said she was taken aback when the Lions named her recipient of the award. "I really wasn't expect- ing this; I was surprised because I thought this was for a friend of mine," she said. "I'm very honoured and privileged to be chosen for the volunteer award. I really enjoy volunteer work... it's an important part of my life." published by the Port Perry Star for advertising information call the original...
