This Friday evening (July 23), the week- end's activities begin in Port Perry at the fairgrounds with the Great Blue Heron Tattoo at 7 p.m. At this year's Tattoo, the sounds will be magnificent as sev- eral pipe bands per- form, including the Toronto Royal Regiment Brass Band, the Toronto Helicopter Squadron Pipes and Drums, the Durham and York Police Pipe Bands, the Uxbridge Legion and others. Afterwards, in the beer tent, the Celtic rock band Enter the Haggis will keep your toes a tappin' on into the night. If you are hungry or want to quench your thirst, there will be plenty of concession booths. Over the next two days the fun and games continue at Elgin Park in Uxbridge. Here, the events include Celtic livestock shows and displays, highland dance compe- titions, heavy games, and sheep and duck herding demonstra- tions by border collies. The Young Peoples' Celtic Pavilion is the place to visit to explore Scottish and Celtic heritage and tradi-_ tions. The Heavy Games -- always a crowd pleaser -- include the caber toss, stone and ham- mer throws and the sheath and weight toss. As well, the sounds of Celtic music will reverberate through- out Elgin Park over the weekend. On stage will be sev- eral Irish and Celtic dance groups. Nearby there'll also be the sounds of many per- formers, including Claidhmor, a Celtic quartet; Hadrian's Wall, a Celtic rock group; and John Allan Cameron, the father of Celtic music from Cape Breton. Spinners and weavers will take the audience through the process of weaving an article from freshly shorn sheep fleece and, back again by popular demand is the Scottish Dog Show which fea- tures the rare and unique Dandie Dinmont Terrier and 11 other Scottish breeds. Something new this year 1s a Birds of Prey show put on by master falconer Wilfred an BER RBRE TE RBR2C Emonts of the Tottenham Falconry Centre. With the accompani- ment of a Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Harris Hawk and several babies that have been bred and hatched at the falconry centre, Mr. Emonts gives a talk about the different traits of each variety.
