Once there, he'll spend the first two months of his stay working on aque- ducts, wells, and irriga- tion, environmental con- servation and research projects. Later he'll be involved in community infrastructure projects, such as building commu- nity centres and schools. His most immediate challenge, however, is the $6,000 he must raise to take part in the Costa Rica experience. "It is a lot of money, but it's good for a lot of people," said Mr. McCoshen, noting he has some plans in mind to raise the required cash. "I want to hold a few car washes and fundrais- ers like that, but I only have about two months left so I'm going to be out there looking for some sponsorship from area businesses, service clubs... I've got some ideas on how to raise the money." Upon returning to Port Perry, he will be required by the YCI to "repay" the community for their help by performing 100 hours of community \service Davis Drive | [Paisley Acres Paisley Acres work and making presen- tations at three local high schools. Mr. McCoshen first found out about the YCI program through a news- paper and from there checked it out on the Internet before contacting the agency. "I" looked into it because I thought it would be a great new experience. | just came out of high school with no real plans and I wanted something to do, some- thing exciting to do before I look into getting full- time work," he said. Mr. McCoshen attend- ed a selection day semi- nar on July 10. "I went there and they made you do all sorts of tests... analytical think- ing, they wanted: to see what kind of person you are, what your personali- ty and characteristics are like," he said. "Later, about 10:30 that night, I got a call saying 'Congratulations, you're going to Costa Rica'.
