Volunteers would be asked to assist with shopping, driving, or walking with clients. Other volunteer opportu- nities exist such as fundraising, instruction, and committees. Grant buys fencing Volunteers were called upon to pitch in once more Saturday, when more improvements were made to Ianson Park in Greenbank. The crew spent the morning installing some 150 feet of fence in the ball diamond outfield, the latest in a series of improvements undertak- en by the Greenbank hall and park board. The latest effort was made possible by a grant from the Molson brewery company, which dispens- es funds under its Local Heroes program. The successful application was made by Larry Doble. "(Molson) sent us a cheque for $2,000, and Local volunteers supply the labour Saturday that basically covered the materials," said Mr. Doble Saturday morning. It was up to the com- munity to supply the labour, something that didn't prove to be a prob- lem, said Mr. Doble. "I think it's a great thing when you get peo- ple in the community focusing on a project," he said. "It may seem old- fashioned, but it works. "This park is a focal point of the community." Support from the com- munity and groups such as the Greenbank Lions Club has allowed for a number of improvements over the past few years. Other fencing 'has been installed, as was a signif- icant amount of fill in the outfield. And the creation of a roofed shelter at the park was a major under taking. The money granted by Molson was deposited in an account overseen by the township, and with- drawals were made to cover expenses, said Mr. Doble.
