There are some very exciting new events this year such as the display of Operation Migration by Bill Lishman and friends, the Dog Obstacle Race (all interested dog owners of all ages check the fair book or with secretary Janice Beechey for details) the changed time for the Horse Pull from late after- noon to 11 a.m., the Cornfest which features corn equipment of all ages and free corn on the cob, an aerial surprise mid- afternoon, a musical ride per- formed by the riders of Hoskin Stables to the many, many annual events. . All this on Saturday, Aug. 28 meeting for the board this Thursday evening at the Town Hall. Try your best to attend. Don and Marjorie Green are looking very proud these days with the arrival of a new grand- son - 'a baby boy born to Marilyn and Mel Tobin of Oshawa recently. Congratulations to all of you. Sympathy is extended to Shirley and Robert Berry, Carl and Judy Gilbank and their families on the passing of their father and grandfather Ken Gilbank who had been a resi- dent of Marnwood Lifecare Centre, Bowmanville for the - past several years. The community thoughts are with George Bryant and their family as well as other members of the family and Brenda Aggie and Norm Silsbee of Mesa, Arizona spent last week with their former winter neigh- bour, Mrs. Andrea Weir. What a great time of sightseeing and visiting they had. Many of our residents are enjoying holidays. When you return, I hope you share your news so it can be included 'in this column. Peter and Janice Barber British Isles. They visited Jan's sister Elaine and her husband Derek Whitcroft and together toured through much of England and Scotland. What a wonderful vacation. Sympathy is extended to Carl and Cathy Anderson on the passing of Cathy's Aunt Eleanor (Lamb) Telford. They attended the visitation and funeral held in Fenelon Falls last week. There were 14 tables at the weekly Tuesday evening card party with the following win- ners. Marjorie Davies, Charlie Stapleton, Doris Evans, Richard Potter, Charlie Campbell, Teresa Berkers and Hugh Fairman. Lucky draws were won by Eileen Owens, Vivian Kidd, Les Johnston, - United at the attended the annual Fenelon Fair over the weekend. Among the horse exhibitors, Brad Goslin with his Goslin Clydes did very well. For those involved please make note that the Cemetery Service for St. John's Cemetery will be held on Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Canon Ansley Tucker as the speaker. There will be no church at the Blackstock United again this coming Sunday. Sun finally shines on Caesarea Hall Board Euchre night for this month of August will be Wednesdays, Aug. 11 and 25 at 8 p.m. Remember the hall has been altered and also re-painted and is always open for rentals. Musicians Corn Roast Sunday didn't look too promising at first as it was raining but cleared up in the late afternoon and early evening being cool. This was not too good for ice cream sales but coffee and hamburger sales were good. From start-up time to 8 p.m. there was always some musical group play- ing on stage. I'd say it was very well organized. Everyone seemed to be happy as they left. I'm looking forward to next year's program. What's Special at the Island Museum? This Sunday is the Cruisin' Classic Car Club Show at the Island Museum. There is always a few model cars and names which turn up that you have never heard of. Last year I saw a Marlin which I hadn't seen for many years. It runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with breakfast and lunch available. Admission is $3.50. Blackstock Lions Club Last Sunday the Blackstock and Port Perry Lions Clubs were busy at the Musicians Corn Roast in memory of Larry Dee. Wednesday, Aug. 11 we have a direc- tor"s meeting at Ken Lee's home at 6 p.m. which includes dinner. We will be forming teams for the Blackstock Fair and two bars we will be attending. Wednesday, Aug. 11 is also Eleanor Colwell's retirement party. Pine Ridge Garden Club Tuesday, Aug. 31, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 1 and 2 District 17 will ackaging 192,200 bulbs at Rey Hall to be shipped. A lot of Musicians Corn Roast Albert Putsey hands are needed for this project. Wednesday, Sept. 8 is a bus trip to Centre Island and the St. Lawrence Market with a fee of $20. Your dinner and ferry fee are extra. Call Shirley Love at 986-5330. Tuesday, Aug. 31 is the corn roast at the nursing home. We need help and also baked cookies and squares. Lake Scugog Regatta Association Eileen and 1 were away for the weekend and it rained on Saturday on the Upper French River and in Sudbury. In all the years that the Albert Putsey Sr. High Point Trophy for the field day events has existed this year was the first time we received a message of how proud the winner Bailey Ashley Fineberg Allett was to win the award. Thank you Bailey and congratulations. Regatta meeting will be on Labour Day weekend. Joke of the Week A salesman in a department store was demonstrating an egg cooker. 'Christian C By Vera Brown 2 Utica, som Correspondent Community saddened by passing of Ruby Bryant By Florence Ashton Due to the overnight rain on Saturday, morning worship was held in the church on Sunday. We had planned to meet at Margaret Davis' garden. Rev. Sheina Smith led in worship and preached an inspiring ser- mon titled Ministry of Encouragement, based on Psalm 84 which is a prayer of thanksgiving of someone who is radiantly happy. Jackie Crawford sang a lovely solo "How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place." Following the service, we all enjoyed our pot luck luncheon in the church hall. It was nice to see Bruce Summers out at church, following his | assi cS Ashburn area news 7 Florence Ashton AT recent accident. We wish him well, as he continues to improve. We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Ruby Bryant, who passed away in Port Perry Hospital a week ago. Her funeral was conducted from Burns Church on Tuesday, Aug. 3 with Sheina Smith officiating. Interment was in Burns Church Cemetery. Ruby was a long time resident of Ashburn, hav- ing lived with her late husband Ted on Townline * Road where they farmed and brought up their fam- ily. Ruby was active in Burns Church, a faithful member of the Missionary Society, Ladies Bible Class and Kirk Guild. Following her husband's death, she has enjoyed liv- ing in Port Perry and loved to have her friends call for a visit. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all the members of her family. Doug and Florence Ashton attended the 50th wedding anniversary cele- bration for Dudley and Erla Wilson of Whitby on Saturday afternoon, a lovely outdoor party at their home.
