When true world powers of sport in Asia and Europe begin taking up roller hockey, bowling, and waterskiing because they have become legitimate Olympic medal events, then 'maybe I'll believe that they were introduced at the Pan-Am games to benefit the world of sporting com- petition and not just to benefit the ego of a host nation with ap inferiority complex. =~ © Marisa Snowden (left) leap for a fly ball during warm-ups in Blackstock Saturday morning, as Lishman's prepared to meet Van Camp Contracting in a Squirt level game. Mother Nature refuses to co-operate as Saturday night races at Mosport Speedway washed out for fourth consecutive week By John "Wally" Nesbitt From Corner Five After three consecutive rained- out race weekends, Mosport Speedway staff were determined to get in a race card of Stock Car racing while Mother Nature seemed equally bound to thwart those efforts. Way back on July 3, The Horner Automotive Modified feature race was red-flagged because of rain and the impending Clarington Curfew. After repeated attempts to complete the remaining 12 laps, the checkered flag finally flew on Saturday with the #36 car of Darrin Wrigglesworth claiming top hon- ours. In second place, eight car lengths in arrears, was the #2 Chevy of Dwight Brown. Andy Warbutton (#71), Terry Robichaud (#00) and Mike Frederick (#22) were next across the line, running in a pack, nose to tail. Saturday's regularly scheduled action began with the Bob's Towing ThunderCar series. Joe Anderson in the #6 Chevelle claimed the first of the eight lap heat races with series points leader Kyle 'Wheely' Donaldson in his #53 Camaro earning top spot in the second event. Round three of the ThunderCar heat proved to be the closest race of the evening as 'Smokin' Joe and Wheely D. ran side by side for four solid laps with young Kyle eventually taking the win, a bumpers length ahead of Anderson. The final T.C. heat was taken by Markham's Doug Lamb after a spirited battle with. Dave Crowther. The Terry Cullwick Auto/Fortune Investments Challenger cars were the next to be staged. Nestleton's Dave Lee (#09) took round one of the Challenger division heats, just holding off a revitalized Craig Perry (#37). In the second of the 10 lap dashes, points leader Steve Knab battled his way (liter- ally), to the checkered flag, taking the narrow victory ahead of Glen Fricker and Perry. The Horner Automotive Modifieds returned to the track for the scheduled appearance and Darrin Wrigglesworth picked up right where he left off. The Acton resident took the green and white #36 to two well deserved heat wins and as a result, moved into top spot in the overall points standings.
