The launching of a large sailboat at the municipal docks at the north end of Water St. was the cause for power outage, said Scugog Hydro general manager Terry Adderley. "He pulled ahead instead of backing up and pulled some of the wires down," said Mr. Adderley, explaining the incident which occurred around 3 p.m. on Monday. Fortunately, no one was hurt. "Everything is repaired now, a few minor repairs had to be done but damage was minimal. "Those affected were in a fairly located area... there weren't too many people out of power." Hydro was restored in about 40 minutes, added Mr. Adderley. Beef Club members learn lots this summer By Pat Megens On July 27th, the Durham-West 4-H Beef Club held it's first meeting at Jim Byers feedlot operation in Blackstock. The members learned some very interesting infor- mation about the facts and myths surrounding the beef marketing industry. Subjects such as how much to feed, and when, were discussed, as well as implants, which are sup- posed to give a 15% greater yield from the carcass, and vaccines. We were taught that there are more sub- stances made from beef than most people realize. In fact, both Jello and Trident gum are byproducts of beef. The club decided to create a booth to set up at local fairs to help dispel myths about eating beef. The members also learned about future tracking sys- Ridweiters, for kids who love: to write, is' now . accepting registrations for its gust pr program for by Dulhan group tems to aide packing plants in tracing the cattle back as far as desired. How it will work is a chip will be implanted into the cattle at the breeders, so they will be tracked where ever they go. For example, if some residue shows up in a carcass, the packing plants will be able to trace the cattle back to where the incident happened, and who is to be held responsible. The club then met back in the main barn where the meeting was closed, and pop and donuts were served, courtesy of Mr. Byers. We would like to thank Mr. Byers for his generosity and for teaching us all a little something about running a feedlot. Our last two meetings will be held on Aug. 19, and Aug. 29 at Kelly and Ron Thompson's Limousin farm (Edgeview Limousin) in Sunderland.
