2 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 17, 1999 Thieves grab goods valued at $5,700 in car break-ins Durham Regional Police are looking into the possibility that the theft of goods from two vehicles in the John St. area are connected. Officers were dispatched to a John St. residence on Aug. 13 after thieves entered an unlocked black 1986 Pontiac Firebird sometime between midnight on Aug. 12 and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 13. Taken during the entry was an Alpine cassette deck, Alpine CD changer, and a quantity of CDs, say police, estimating the stolen goods have a value of $750. A Blackstock man was visiting friends in the area when the theft occurred, police say. Thieves also broke into another locked vehicle in the area, sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 13, say police. NOON ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 27T During that time, police report that a Lindsay man was visiting some friends and had left his vehicle locked on John St. While inside, police say thieves stole a lap-top computer worth an estimated $5,000.
