Dab 1 "A Famlly Tradition for 132 Years" The Pout Povey Stag Question of the Week... If any money can be found, do you think Scugog councillors should throw a party to welcome the new millennium or invest it into community projects? Do you have a suggestion that you think would make a good question of the week? Call us at 905-985-7383. Irene Harrison Lori Davis Louise Free They should have a big Definitely a big party. To the Editor: What a terrific day it was. Cruisin' Classics Car Club hosted their seventh Annual Car Show on Sunday, Aug. 15 and from all accounts it was a great success. With a total of 170 cars participating, there were plenty of classy automo- biles to see. Scugog Shores Museum reports that over 500 spectators were on hand to enjoy the day. It is our goal to provide a "luck of the draw prize" for every participant if possible - a goal that was reached this year with the generous help of many local businesses and sponsors. Everyone went home a winner - the biggest being Scugog Shores Museum. It has been our privilege to support this worthwhile cause for the past seven years. A terrific day for Cruisin' Classics big car show We would like to take this opportunity to thank The Port Perry Star for the excellent coverage of our function, both before and during this year's car show. Your full page adver- tising feature was truly appre- ciated as was the article writ- ten by Chris Hall on Aug. 13 and the follow-up pictures on Aug. 17. Because of your valued support and that of other spon- sors we have earned an excel- lent reputation regarding the uniqueness of our annual car show. We hereby invite everyone to visit us at our Saturday Night Cruise-ins held at Reid's Independent Grocer including our Appreciation Night on Sept. 18. Hope to see you there. Julie Williams, Chairperson. LETTERS Kids' golf tournament needs sponsors to ensure success To the Editor: The Gotta Golf Academy situated at the Country Acres driving range in Port Perry is looking for the support of local businesses to donate prizes for its second Annual Junior Golf Tournament. i The tournament, for children ages fiv to 10 and 11 to 18, will be held at Canterbury Common Golf Club, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. and will give the children an opportunity to play on a real golf course, often for the very first time. There will be a prize presentation back at the Country Acres driving Range as well as a barbecue. Every child receives a trophy, with the winners receiving a champion's trophy. I hope to make the day a success and with your support, it will be that much easier. For every donation made to the tourna- ment the company will receive a free men- tion in an advertisement from Gotta Golf in The Port Perry Star thanking all of the local businesses for their support. You may drop any merchandise off direct- ly at Country Acres, if you can donate com- pany apparel or any golf related product this would be appreciated. : If you are going to give a monetary donation could you please make donations" payable to Jason Helman, CPGA, a receipt for this donation is available. This tournament is a non-profit tourna- ment, all funds strictly cover the cost to run the tournament. I look forward to your support and thank you in advance for mak- ing the kid's day a memorable moment in their young lives. Jason D. Helman, President, Gotta Golf Academy rm To the Editor: This morning I was witness to an extremely disturbing sight. I was taking a walk down by the waterfront at Palmer's Park and noticed a limping, solitary Canada Goose. The first thought was per- haps because of an injury the pack had left it. Upon closer inspection I noticed a metal bar on one leg and a tagging of some sort or the other. The part that completely shocked and upset me was that the goose's legs were tied together, causing the stumbling and limp. Perhaps this was just my 17- year-old immaturity pulsating, but I ran home and got scissors Why was goose in distress? to cut the goose free. It, of course, would not let me close and feebly attempted to fly, only to hit the baseball fence. I suppose that this will not be important to most, yet I felt it utterly sickening and dis- "gusting. It would put my mind at ease to know if there was some logical reason that the goose would benefit from being crippled and sentenced to death by the fast approaching fall. In my mind there could be absolutely no benefit to the goose through such guiltless torture and punishment. Julia Gajewski, Port Perry To the Editor: The Lake Scugog Regatta wishes to thank the many vol- unteers and companies that advertised in our program. Also all the people who donated many prizes as well as those who took time to collect for us: The White family; Jim Grieve (I.G.A.); Wm.
