"A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 14, 1999 - 27 Countryside Adventure is next weekend After a welcomed rainy week, the beautiful weekend weather delighted many as they attended the various activities. Many locals attended Uxbridge, Orono and Oakwood fairs in various capacities - exhibitors, judges and visitors. Our local doctor's office will re-open next Monday, Sept. 20 when Dr. R. Price will be back after several weeks of vacation and study. Recently Nancy and Bob Bryans of Cadmus, enjoyed a birthday supper with her par- ents, Babe and Wilf Brown of Oshawa celebrating both Nancy and her dad's birth- days. Cecil and Marie Gibson enjoyed a visit with Ross and Irene Vanclief of Corbyville, mutual friends Alice and Bob Brown of Peterborough and Amos and Elsie Whitmore of Corbyville joined the group for dinner. This coming weekend will see two brides-to-be hon- oured. On Saturday afternoon a miscellaneous community shower will be held at the Parish Hall in honour of Jay Devitt, bride-to-be of Bryce Green. On Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. a "come and go" in honour of Jennifer Lee and Jeff Parry will be held at the home of David and Donna Kyte. Donations for a gift may be given to Donna, Edith McLaughlin or Gord Paisley anytime this week. Gord and Deb Bryans, Leanna and Christina of Egypt recently bought a farm on Gray Rd. and have moved into the former McMullen and Weir's emu farm. Many have enjoyed visiting them at their new home. George and Marilyn Cochrane have taken up resi- dence in the new home which they have built on the Bradburn Line on the back of their farm. Belated best wish- es to you in your new loca- tion. Much preparation is being made for the Durham Countryside Adventure which will be held thréughout Durham next Saturday and Sunday. About 40 sites are available to visit and enjoy. Local sites are Byersdale Farm, Swains Seed Cleaner and Dealer, Landfill Farm Bed and Breakfast and Antiques and Blackstock United Church where lunch will be served. A family supper was held at the Bryans Cadmus farm to help Nancy and Gord cele- brate their birthdays. Muriel Wotten was among those who attended the open- ings of the Pavilion of the Trans Canada Hiking Trail on Thursday mornings at Uxbridge. In an age of greater and greater emphasis on the value of hiking, this is indeed a very exciting project. Both Henry Wotten and the Shirley Women's Institute names are listed in the pavil- ion. The Annual Terry Fox Run will be held in Port Perry next Sunday beginning at Palmer Park at 8:30 a.m. If anyone is interested in partic- ipating, sign-up sheets are available locally at Masterson's Country Convenience store. If you do not actively participate but wish to support this great event, help sponsor some of the walker/runners. Local regulars are Ruth Marconi, Kathleen and David Petrie and the Ron Martyn family. St. John's News By Colin Beal Sunday was a very special day at St. John's Blackstock. It was the day on which we celebrated the Feast of the Holy Cross and it was also the day on which the family of the late Dr. John and Mrs. Lorenza McArthur came to dedicate gifts' which they have presented to the church in memory of their parents. Dr. and Mrs. McArthur were both very active and well loved members of St. John's congregation and the Cartwright community for many years. A large number of friends from the communi- ty joined with the family to see Father Hugh bless the beautiful memorial gifts. These include communion vessels, altar linens, a cope and a chasuble for festal occa- sions, a funeral pall and a commemorative plaque. After the blessing of the gifts, Father Hugh invited the children of the church school to come into the sanc- tuary to view the gifts. He then explained the purpose and liturgical significance of each item to the children, a commentary which everyone in the church found interest- ing. Following the Eucharist, there was a great reunion of family, friends and members of the congregation during coffee time. Father Hugh, the church wardens and members of the congregation at St. John's are very grateful to the McArthur family for their kindness and generosity in this wonderful memorial to their parents. This coming Sunday after- noon, (Sept. 19), St. John's will hold the Annual Memorial Service. This will take place in St. John's Cemetery, on Edgerton Road, starting at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Canon Ansley Tucker, a for- mer Rector, will be the guest speaker. inh CRE BRS DER IEE *|ANALDA GARDEN]: SERVICE & BUSIICESS DIRECTORY SEAN PRE 985-3261 BUSINESS 3 L0G RI ELECTRICAL RESIDENTIAL - FARM J ALANS ARI a Te - COMMERCIAL RA arocque High Efficiency Tha Lighting Systems Genin ta Electric ghting Sy Gnd In Business since 1974 Call Rick or Richard i WEY PTR IB AACR RG SFC A Don't let potential customers pass you by!
