There was a fire set in the garbage container during the first week of school. The latest was just this past weekend on Friday night where there were beer bottles broken all throughout the park- ing lot and back behind where the kindergarten class is as well as garbage strewn all over and an attempt made to break a light. This is a concern for the community. Maybe we can come up with some sort of a com- munity watch program. If anyone has any ideas please call Heidi at 985- 2762. The Greenbank Lions are having a country Greenbank area news by Doris Hill I ---- music night on Oct. 23 from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 each and the show features Gary Hooper and friends. Phone 985-3723 for tick- ets. Congratulations to Al Clarkson's team who won the community ball tour- nament on the weekend. It was a fantastic week- end weatherwise and everyone had a great time. Also thanks to every- one who helped construct the much needed baseball fence. Mrs. Betty McGee spent a few days last week at Niagara Falls with daughter Jan and her family. She also spent a few days at Jan's cot- tage at Severn Falls. Miss Emma Carson provided the mission of music at church on Sunday with her beauti- ful singing with Betty McGee playing for her. Sympathy is extended to Brenda Gibson and family on the passing of her husband Keith and also to Audrey Golden on the death of her husband Jack. Sr. Choir practice will be Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend and would like to sing, you may obtain a practice tape to use at home. Call 985-8559. There will be a board of stewards meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. There will not be any service at Greenbank Church next Sunday as it 1s Seagrave Church Anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. The guest speaker is Mr. Larry Breakonridge, a lay minister serving the Maynooth pastoral charge. The Evening Unit U.C.W. held its first meet- ing since the spring last Wednesday. The Devotional portion was presented by Joanne Bonner and Kim There was lots of friendly competition during the slo pitch tournament this weekend. Thomson and the subject discussed was "Perfection." We will be selling Regal this fall, so please watch for catalogues or speak to any member. Christmas card recipe booklets will be available for $2 closer to Christmas. It was decided to have a Silent Auction in the fall of 2000. Our next meeting will be Oct. 6. Youth Choir practice will begin Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Greenbank Church for youth eight years and older. This choir is open to all local youth. We will be singing all types of music, so if you enjoy singing, come and join in. Congratulations to Grant Vale and Susan White who were wed in Greenbank Church on Saturday evening. The Greenbank Public School Community Council would like to thank the following peo- ple for helping with the dalism troubling for community levelling of the gravel at the new playground: Ralph Dusty, Ron and Sandie Thomson, and Don Beacock. Also everyone is invit- ed to the school barbecue on Sept. 29. R.S.VP. to the school by Sept. 24. Robert and Margaret Couperthwaite attended the Jack and Jill in Oshawa on Friday evening for Heather Couperthwaite and Steven Thorburn who will be wed next Saturday, Sept. 25.
