Normal operations will resume Friday, to the dump so we could get rid of it," the Blossom Court resident said last week. Having never visited the local trans- fer station by herself, Mrs. Fox received instructions from a site employee and proceeded to dispose of her garbage. "The last (disposal bin) I came to was for the metal stuff, and I had these shut- ters that we wanted to throw away," she celebrate the future seg \¥ a DURHAM aC LO NL (OY 1 999 1 974 wh the next thing I knew I was at the bot- tom of the bin... I just ended up in there, I don't remember losing my footing or anything like that. "One minute I was at the top, and the next I was at the bottom." Mrs. Fox fell more than 10 feet to the bottom of the bin, striking scrap pieces on the way down and landing amongst an old dishwasher and barbeque. Upon trying to stand up after her fall, she noticed that she had no feeling in her left hand at all and that she was bleeding profusely from her head. "I started yelling for help, and then I heard this guy ask me if I was hurt," said Mrs. Fox. "I said yes, -and the next thing I knew there was a fellow right in the bin with me." Seagrave resident Mike Young had jumped into the bin with her with the intent on helping her out. Once inside, however, they both realized there was no way out. "You can only open the side of the bin from the outside, so neither one of us could get out," said Mrs. Fox. "We start- ed yelling for help and finally Mike got a lady to call the fire department and ambulance on her cell phone." While waiting for emergency crews to arrive, the father of two kept her calm and focussed. "He was really awesome. We just sat there and talked and he asked me my name, and other questions and kept me under control." Even after emergency crews arrived and the pair were rescued, Mrs. Fox's hero stayed by her side, calming her and assuring her everything was going to be alright. She is expected to be re-examined by doctors today. There is a possibility that she may not regain full use of her left hand. "I was really, really lucky," she said. "But, it could have been a lot worse off if it hadn't of been for Mike." As for the transfer site, Mrs. Fox just said that "it shouldnt be left like that" without some sort of protective barrier.
