"A Family Tradition for 134 Years" rT a eee PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 30, 1999 - 3 0 Police raid results in charges against auto shop owners Two local businessmen face charges after a search warrant executed at their Port Perry-area body shop resulted in the seizure of four vehicles with a total value of more than $100,000. In an joint investigation with the Ontario Provincial Police, various members of both forces -- including 26 Division detectives, uniformed offi- cers, and auto squad detectives, as well as members of the Provincial Auto Unit and OPP officers from Barrie -- executed a search warrant during the afternoon of Nov. 26 at the shop. Officers found four vehicles with an estimated value in excess of $100,000 as well as a large quantity of tools. Two of those vehicles -- a 1995 Chev pickup and a 1991 GMC pickup -- were confirmed stolen yesterday afternoon. As a result of their investigation, police have charged a 59-year-old Westhill man with one count of posses- sion of stolen property. His son, a 32- year-old Manchester man, is charged with the same offence. They will appear in an Oshawa court on Feb. 16. The joint investigation continues, and more charges are pending, say police. Employee IS accused of stealing $6,000 Durham Police are conducting an investiga- tion into a local lawyer's allegation that a former employee stole more than $6,000 from him. Police say a Queen St. lawyer claims that a for- mer employee, who had worked at his office as a bookkeeper for three years, stole a quantity of . cash. The suspect was let go earlier this month after internal circumstances, When a temporary accounting service was hired to replace her, . irregularities were found ; in the account books and in the cash count. ~ An investigation by the victim revealed that between March and May this year six cheques were made out to the sus- pect for a total of approx- imately $4,000. Another cheque was issued to the suspect this month. None of the cheques were made from the pay- roll account. As well, the cash count was $1,000 short, which the victim believes occurred when another employee took $1,000 from a customer, issued a receipt and then turned the cash over to the sus- pect for deposit into the bank, say police. Bank records show there was never a deposit.
